Yes, I can find those in-stock all over the place. Why did you elect to go with the BFG 265 instead of the 275? Just curious...

Can't you just hit the VSC off button while you are running on the spare? I am 42 years old and have never needed a spare in the past. I wonder if I do not intend to offroad with them what the chances are that I might need the spare.

Also, the BFG 275-70-17 is not a popular size tire so, one would definitely need ordered if something were to happen. Nobody has them in-stock.

Well, you're right...if you don't off-road, then it would take a big a$$ pothole to damage the BFG! I think that you're OK with slightly different tires in your situation.

The VSC OFF button...when you press it, does it stay OFF at highway speed? If so, then that is a good solution for sure!

I have an answer to this question. You can turn VSC off via the button as long as you are doing under 32MPH. Once you hit 32 it turns itself back-on automatically.

Yup, i knew it...this is CYA (cover your a$$) America. My Mercedes does the same. So, the problem is still a problem, unless you plan on driving under 32 mph when you have a flat.

So, the overall diameter of our full-size spare is 31.7". If someone upgraded their tires to the BFG AT 275-70-17 the overall diameter of that tire is 32.2". Since you cannot turn VSC off, what would that mean if you had to run on the spare until you got to the tire store?

I am on the phone now with Toyota. They told me the maximum tire size of the spare is 265-70-17.

Yeah, that is what i thought. When i saw the TE at my local dealer, the spare was very snug with the last crossmember/hitch.

Exactly.... Where there is a will ,there is a way. I have to put a BFG 275/70/17 up under mine for a spare now that I'm going to 33's. I'll let you know how it comes out this weekend.

And with the electronics these days on cars, a tire that is not the same size as the other 3 may cause issues.

More like "Will" cause problems. A friend recently had some dumb-ass tire shop put on two tires one size and two tires another size on a Jeep GC. Ten miles down the freeway.... BANG! The transfer case and differentials literally exploded!

I put my BFG AT KO up under for a spare today. There is all kinds of room under there. You could easily fit a 33 with no problem.This is a 275/70/17 which is a 32.2".It is taller/wider then the stock spare but still higher then the rear differential and the hitch so it's not the low point to drag when out wheelin.Alot of 4th Gen owners have been doing it for years now as I found by researching, just didn't know for sure about the 5th til I saw for myself.

I would definitely suggest everybody practice lowering the spare. For one, the jack handle extension bolts were powdercoated after they were put in and were locked up from paint and could not be moved unless you use a 12mm wrench or philips screwdriver ,which wasn't in there.Also the hole that you put the extension into is offset. It is not straight in from the hole in the bumper, more angled towards the middle. I had a hard time finding it because you can't see it .

Oh , by the way , the Limited spare is yellow/green primer for sure, with no TPMS valve stem. I guess they saved another nickle on the silver paint and TPMS.

thanks for the awesome pics Harper. That is some relief that a bigger tire can fit! The spare could be powder coated i guess to match other hyper silver rims. I couldnt remember, i know you lifted your rig, but are there spacers for the wheels to fit? IF you didnt lift, would that tire still fit (i would think not)

Those that say a slightly different size spare will mess up VSC need to be aware that the temporary spares on passenger cars and CUVs with VSC are not the same size as stock tires either.

Those cars' differentials don't blow up, and those awd cars' transfer cases don't blow up either.

Will VSC work as well, or at all, with a spare? Hard to tell, probably not, but nothing will blow up. Heck, our 4R spares don't have TPMS sensors either, according to the manual that my 4R came with.

I have a 285/70/17 for a spare up under mine now. It does have a couple of scuffs from from dragging so the skinnier tire,a 266/80/17,which has the same diameter is a good idea for a spare.
