Trail VS. Trail Premium 2014 (may swap my limited)

I've done a search through the archives but didn't see much between the two. I've also looked through the Toyota site but do not have the luxury of seeing them in person here in the Midwest. So those of you who have seen both... other than the heated leather & standard entune, are there any other major differences? Do they have the same instrument panels, gauges, ect in 2014? Leaning toward trading our 2011 LE for a Trail Premium... Thanks!

Is the basic trail exactly the same as a basic SR5 without the rear locker?

No. The best place to find the differences is at toyota.com and compare models.

I think the interior is different on the trail vs sr5.
Trail has kdss, sr5 doesn't. Basic sr5 won't have 4x4 either

Trail doesn't "have" kdss. It's an option.

Thanks guys... Engineer1, I took a peak at Toyota.com as well but there are always little things that aren't listed there we find out after purchase. Thought there might be some tidbits thrown in this thread that would be helpful to me and future shoppers. Thanks!

I have a 2014 TEP non KDSS and the only thing the irritates me is that the limited is the only trim that gets auto headlights....really? This is standard on 95% of other base model cars. Really it's my only complaint and it's a first world problem complaint...

Good to know... thank you those are the little things you find out later that I'm looking for and I think this thread could be handy for.

I was wanting a '14 trail premium, but about a month ago I bought the trail base, now it's not "base" it's fully loaded Nav, Entune, KDSS...the only things I seem to be "missing" against the Trail Premium is leather and a sunroof....but I took care of the latter, the dealer installed a sunroof for me...turned out amazing it looks factory. I live in Arizona so I wasn't keen on leather to begin with so it worked out for this guy.

What about push start and touch unlocking? I don't know that the 14 TEP has it but limited does. I have found that to be a major convenience, plus makes car theft that much harder.

Yea those are limited options from what I understand...I traded in a 2013 BMW 335xi for the 4Runner, there are a lot of options that I miss on my car...touch entry, heads up display (speed and Nav), Throttle response!!

But at the end of the day you need to consider what you're wanting out of the vehicle if you have a limited now I'd say stick with that, for the dollar value that you'll loose in the trade in alone it may not be worth it...

I thought the limited came with lockers and A-Trac as well as all the goodies of the Trail, I guess I don't see why you'd trade...In fact I was actually holding out for one of the TRD Pro series 4Runners but I had the opportunity to drive one at Overland Expo. The cost benefit analysis didn't add up, I could do what I want to the 4Runner I have now and still make it better than what Toyota will conservatively roll out of the showroom with the TRD pro, AND for less money at the end of the day.

Install an ARB Locker and air compressor...it's been awhile since I looked at them but what ~$1500? (someone else should chime in)

That is pretty close. The air lockers are around 1k each and the compressor is between 250-500 depending on if you get the single or dual.
