Trailer brake controller in 5th Gen.: best location

I'm about to start towing with my 2011 Trail, and am wondering where the best spot is to install my Prodigy P2 brake controller so I can see the LED and monitor brake connection status while I'm driving.

I also want to be able to reach the manual trailer brake control at any time (although I hope I never have to use it).

The steering wheel obscures most of the dash behind it, so I'd love to know if anyone has found a visible location. The Tekonsha wiring harness is about 28 inches long to give some choice of position.

I'll need to take a picture if I get a moment but I mounted my P3 right next to the lower switch blank on the left hand side of the steering column. I thumped my knee into it a couple times (6'1" tall) but eventually I adapted and now don't notice it or hit it since it doesn't take up much space. And it allowed me to reach down with my left hand to use the manual lever without issue.

The centre location looks handy and visible, Jeremy556, but I'd rather not give up the sunglasses, etc. storage spot.

Like QJake and G8RB8 125R5, I'm thinking the lower left corner of the dash is a viable location, as long as I remember not to hit it when getting in or out.

I'm also wondering if it could be installed in front of the air vent, just above the mirror adjustment controls.

That's where I put mine as well. I bump it every once in a while, but generally it doesn't get in the way.

I installed Hopkins InSight Brake controller a couple of weeks ago. Got it online for $80 delivered. What's really cool is it's modular, only had to drill one hole in the center stack for the Flex-Display. Removed one of the blank plugs in center console for Flex Control (manual brake slide), Smart-Box (brake module) is mounted up high to avoid hitting with foot or leg.

They even offer an adapter to plug controller into factory trailer harness. I didn't order harness because factory harness provide with my 4R'er was plenty long enough. System is pretty stealth (which I like) and can be mounted in many locations. Very happy with how it turned out, works great also. Installation instructions below.
