The depreciation on that $75,000 will be HUGE; like way more than the cost to rent an apartment or house for the time you are looking at.
Well maybe so, but that $75,000 has already depreciated by 50% before we ever bought it.
From there it depreciates a little slower thankfully.
A NEW really nice luxury 5th wheel of just 30' would probably be up to $80,000 and a NEW nice Diesel truck set up to haul 5th wheel is about $70,000.
So roughly $150,000 has already depreciated by $75,000 in just the 2-4 years of both RV and Truck.
It will continue to depreciate but a bit slower and if we live in it for 20 years it doesn't matter if its worth $5 when we are done with it.
And the time I am looking at is until either or both of us are too decrepit to continue living on the road. We hope that to be another 20+ years.
Then we just sell everything and both go to an old folks home.
We have long term care that we are paying for so that should take care of what we can't pay for.
But it is all still up in the air so far, we may end up in a house IF we can find what we want and not pay more than $200,000.
We just need to get our bills down, right now we are shelling out $2000 a month just for a house, we want to cut that down to $1000.
we can do that probably if we can keep it under $200,000.
If not then we have the option of Full Time RV which can be anywhere from ZERO per month up to $2000 per month but the thing is we have the option.
So we can save a few $1000 then splurge a month or two and everything in between. We can even go to a cheaper place and save at least $1500 a month for 2 months then lock up the RV, keep it in the RV park and go on a cruise for 2 weeks.
With a house you are saddled with what ever that mortgage is every single month for 30 years.
So if its not cheap enough to save money now it never will be, you will always be a cash poor house hostage.
We are almost thinking that full time RV might be a better option for us.
