Trailer Wiring Connector Removal

Looked around and didn't see anything about this, but how do you detach these connectors? I messed around with them for a while and couldn't figure it out. I'm sure it's easy, I just didn't want to break any plastic parts. Thanks.

I haven't looked under mine or tried it yet, but it looks like there is a tab you can push down on the top of both female connectors. The male connectors look as though they can be unseated by moving them forward after detaching the female connectors. You could test this theory, or wait for someone that has actually done this to chime in.

I can't imagine why you'd want to remove this, but I can see the release latch on the side of the right side connector in your photo. Try depressing that tab behind the catch and see if it slides apart. Add a little silicone if that helps things slide.

I tried fiddling around with both of those things today. I'll go out and try some more later. I need to remove it so I can more easily remove the plug from the bracket. I ripped off the plastic door covering the 4 pin plug in Moab last week and need to replace the whole unit. It will be easier to remove the whole unit from the metal bracket once I get it out from under the vehicle. I then plan on bending the bracket up so it's totally out of the way when off road.

Here's the connector latch (BLUE ARROW) where you press the locking tab downward while pulling the other half (RED ARROW) away:



Wiggling the two halves side to side while pulling may help to separate them with less effort; just do the same thing with both connectors! Rgds

Harness can also be detached from rear of trailer plug if you don't want to remove the entire harness. Just remove (unwrap) the tape that secures loom to back side of plug, slide loom back to reveal release tab.

Either method is super easy to do :thumb:

Thanks! I was looking around under there again after I originally posted and found that the whole thing is easy to detach from the bracket but couldn't figure out how to remove that connector. I must be an idiot when it comes to these things. I'll try unwrapping the tape and seeing if I can unclip it.
