It amazes me how people on the internet feel that they can talk to people in certain ways because they are not standing directly in front of you. I would dare any of you to tell me what to do and not to do with my truck when I am staring right at you.

Hmmm. I commented on this thread for two reasons: 1) He contradicts himself several times on what he really wants to do and 2) When someone wants to do a mod that can potentially kill some poor motorist driving down the highway next to the tool who "modded" his 5K rated vehicle to tow god knows how much, I will comment...on the internet or face to face. If you want to paint your truck ti#ty pink with a purple rainbow, fine. I won't comment. But if you want to do something that can hurt or kill someone...sorry. I will at least tell you. If the OP wants to do this then don't ask for the opinion of the world wide web if they don't want to hear the opinion.

Really? I would feel more responsible to tell you what to do (or give you my opinion) if you asked me face to face, you would be less likely too?

It seems odd to me that a question would be asked with a predictable response and yet people get upset when that response is given. I'm not saying don't ask the question, just don't be surprised with the response given.

I read that by doing a few mods I could increase my towing capacity to that of the Tacoma. One of the mods was a tranny cooler, how do you do that when the tranny is sealed? There is no fluid check stick, no way to fill it back up.

Good lord, people. Relax. Since no one has actually answered the original question, I will.

Adding a tranny cooler is quite simple. Search and you'll find many threads about it. While adding the cooler, you will most likely lose an ounce or two of fluid. Nothing to worry about. I put mine on, lost a little fluid in the process, and moved on with life. Just for fun, while in for a recent oil change, I asked the Service Manager to have the tech check the tranny fluid level. He said it was an hour long process and would cost me $93!!!

Needless to say, I declined it. Never had a problem since.

You can't technically increase towing capacity but you can upgrade what we have.

Probably a good idea to add one and a tranny temp gauge if your towing at or near max towing capacity,especially thru mountains in the summer.

Servicing the transmission fluid is all in the factory repair manual .......down-loadable online here on the forum in the stickies.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I can take critisism contructively, However, I am not trying to tow more than the 5k. I would be more worried about the guy towing a U-haul and has no real interest in the trailer since he doesn't own it and has no experience towing, things fly off and it causes accidents. I am trying to make it easier on the 4unner. To those that say buy a Dodge 3/4 ton or Ford 3/4 ton or GM 3/4 ton, I will never own an american car/truck again. Been there, done that. Japaneese vehicles are so much better. Maybe the Tundra is calling my name.
