need a rebuild i let my 4runner sit for several months, it starts but for some reason it wont go in reverse no neutral , as far as i can tell the fluid looks fine and seems to be enough also while driving it around the block , i could feel a lot of heat coming from it in the passenger compartment :fishing:

I'm in Marysville, for another week or so. Where are you? If you didn't hear anything break, feel any slipping and the fluid isn't the dreaded pink milk, then you have another issue.

Make sure you are on level ground and the engine is at operating temp and running when you check trans fluid. Sorry if you already know this but some don't. Just trying to help.

Do you have a check engine light on now?

Is it shifting fine through the forward gears?

You DO NOT need a rebuild from letting it sit. Unless there was a pre-existing issue.

I'd dump an extra quart of fluid in it just for the hell of it. You can't hurt a trans by over filling it... but it will get mad and puke it out if you do too much.

Before I'd spend all the $ on a rebuild, I'd drop the pan and change the filter. Examine the drained fluid for any "clutch mud" or metal dust. Use a strainer and magnet.

I'm in Oroville, no check engine light and it does move through the gears fine, lil slow, fluid looked ok, there just no reverse nor neutral, and how hot it got, the cat is brand new,my lil brother has it now, rebuilding the engine on it, and i wont be able to run it to temp, till he is done , now would the seals dry up if it say long enough? it been hot as hell here and dry, i will change filter n check fluid once he gets done
