I have a 1996 T4R 2wd SR5 with auto trans. I had trouble with 1st and second gears not engaging properly and saw a lot of people mentioning the transmission solenoids. I bought the full pack of 3 and replace them as well as flushed the fluid. It was a dark brown and I've seen many people saying that flushing after that is a bad idea . Now 1st gear still sucks but 2nd is way better so what could be wrong. Well if the transmission is in D it over-revs 2nd shifts briefly into 3rd (about a second) and straight into 4th. Then it won't go into o/d unless it's turned off. Even more peculiar is that while fooling around with it I found that it shifts up to 3rd in L. Needless to say I'm baffled. Also tried changing the TPS and resetting the ECU to no avail. Is it time to drop the money on a new tranny? Oh it has just over 290,000 miles on it. Broke that barrier 2 weeks ago.
