Using the LeLink obd Bluetooth tool from Amazon and the Enginelink app from Apple Store.

There are a few default data streams available.
To get actual sensor data you must use the custom screens.

Long press on the custom screen, there will be a list of items you can choose. Select the gauge style, you can scroll up and down to select the sensors you want to monitor, by default, the app will load the standard pid list, 010b will map, maf will be 0110, you will see a bunch of pids for O2 sensors.

You can also load other pids by clicking on “Edit” and then “Load PIDs”, there will be a list of pid files to choose from.

However!
At the bottom of the list will be trans temp. Do not use it you must follow the directions from here down to access trans temp.

4runner has its own custom pid for its transmission temp.

You can create a custom pid by long press on custom screen->select gauge->click on “Edit” -> click on “+”, then follow the instructions to enter the following information step by step:

Header:0

ModeAndPID: 21D9

Formula: ((((E*256)+F)*(7/100)-400)/10)

Min: 0

Max: 300

Unit: °F

Description: Transmission Temp

Did you verify accuracy with a scantool besides this one?

I'm very interested in knowing this as well. Tranny temps have been discussed a number of times and it seems there's no real agreement on the accuracy of these methods and where the temperatures are taken from.

Gotta wonder how critical this trans temp during fill really is.

Is there a thermostat in the fluid loop to the radiator ? That's the question.

Otherwise the operating trans temp must be all over the place given ambient of 0 to 120, climbing mountains, idling in the SW...

It has a dedicated sensor I believe in or near the oil pan area, coolant temperature wouldn't matter as much because it's more about what the temperature of incoming fluid is vs. outgoing it seems. While you wouldn't think it makes a big deal, the fluid level does change quite a bit and the WS transmissions seem to be sensitive to even a 1/4qt over or under filled.

Test 1 is complete but no totally conclusive.
After the truck had been sitting, tested trans temp with LeLink, it read 120, hooked up a brand new snap on $3200 scanner and it read 125.
Should've waited till temp has stabilized to be sure. However, either way it's close.
