Transmission cooler

so i know theirs lots of love around here for the 'TRD Transmission cooler', but the cheapest i could find one for was 150$ :jaw drop:

considering it's just a miniature radiator, with bigger journals for a more viscous fluid, i was a bit shocked!

so i found this on Amazon Hayden Automotive 678 Rapid-Cool Plate and Fin Transmission Cooler

for a MUCH more reasonable price of ~50$, so can anyone convince me the TRD cooler cools 100$ more than this one? or anybody with less then positive things to say about the 'Hayden' brand of transmission cooler?

I've got the very same Hayden cooler you are looking at. Had it for years, works great. Many other members on here use a Hayden cooler as well. Don't waste your money on the TRD. I'm sure it works great, but so does the Hayden.
 
I installed my cooler before I joined T4R. It is a tube type 5x10 inch type. It works great too. It runs after the radiator.

On a hot summer day after doing 72 MPH on freeway, the temp shows as 130 F, which is way below the normal temp.
 
I got my cooler for $7 from a junkyard. Its from a Jeep. It seems to be pretty good quality and no issues so far.
 
I have two 9 inch fans fixed on to the AC condenser so I mounted the trans cooler directly behind the front lower valence.

If you can find a cooler about 5-6 inches by 8 -10 inches, this would be an ideal fit to the lower valence opening. You can get a Ford trans cooler to fit into this space. Remember you have to use a stone guard to protect the cooler as well if you mount it at this level. Also an advantage of mounting the cooler at this level is that there is less pressure for the trans to push the oil than pushing oil into a cooler mounted at an elevated location.

The reason why I prefer tube over the fin version is the flow is less restricted in the tube type.
 
If you are looking to install fans on the cooler, think about buying a used motorcycle radiator fan. Yamaha makes some nice enclosed blade fans and they are designed to last unlike the ones at the local parts store at a fraction of the cost.

Yamaha R1 or Vmax would work great. If you have a gauge, wire it to a toggle and when the temps rise too high, flip the switch. Probably only need them on when you are wheeling.

exactly what i was thinking! i have several bikes, and many boxes of parts, in fact 2 R1 cooling fans ;) great minds think alike right?
