transmission temp gauge/monitoring

I've seen a few people post up their tranny temps while towing. What are some ways to monitor transmissions temps? I wouldn't mind having a gauge for it, but I wouldn't know where to tap in. Perhaps just a sensor inline in the tranny cooler hose that goes to the radiator?

Otherwise, is this temp already monitored and available with an OBD reader?

iDriva4R has a Scangauge. He can tell you what it scans. I am not sure if our 4Runner already does tranny and oil temp. I don't think it does, but I could be wrong.

I do have a ScanGauge, but it's an older one without the Xgauge feature. I guess it's about time I trade it in for the newer ones.

I think the issue is does our computer record the tranny temps? Or do we need to tap into the line and buy an aftermarket gauge?

Does anyone know the answer - do we need to buy a tranny thermometer or does the computer record this temp and can we pull it using the scangauge?

I have the scangauge with x-gauge and no it can't read the tranny temps.
Funny thing is .....reading thru the factory repair manual I don't even think there is a external temp sensor on the a750 tranny to tap into to get a reading up to a gauge. I found the one on the a343 which is the 4 speed tranny.Maybe ,somebody else read the manual to see if I missed something here.

Also the only way to add fluid or check the fluid level is to fill it until it comes out the overfill plug hole. It does have procedure to check temps.....all it says is to put in fluid detection mode and idle speed control mode and then adjust the temp.to the specified value. It does have a cooler already as I was looking to relocate the lines.The tranny cooler is internal to the radiator I believe with lines coming out both sides on the bottom of the radiator.

One thing about the a750's is they are a very,very reliable and have been so for years.! I don't think that I have ever read about a problem with them although I'm sure there had to be some. Lot of complaints about rough shifting and the shift points but not about reliability!

After going through a few threads people were having difficulties because of their firmware. I bought my sg2 nov 2011 and it had the 4.06 firmware on it. I had no problems programming it. Hope that helps!

I do have an OBD II reader but have not checked to see if I can read the tranny temp.

Thats the one, needs to have the xguage capability. I bought mine about a week ago and it does work.

On the scanguage website it states that it does have trans temps for a few toyotas. here is the link.. This is with X-gauge

It does say yes. I haven't tried it yet.

I can confirm its working. I currently have it reading out temps on my gauge. I used the 2010+ code.

I like my ultragauge, but I don't think trans temp is an option.

Just had a pioneer 8200 NEX + Maestro RR installed and I was hoping for a transmission temp reading but it doesn't seem to read through the connections.

Has anyone been successful with this? I have a 2010
