Check your fluid level (when hot). If it is OK, you may need to flush the trans fluid. I had a 98 and a had similar issue. I changed the fluid to synthetic and had no more issues. It also shifted harder, more abrupt.
I used Mobil 1 synthetic. You may want to have the filter checked. If they didn't secure it properly you could have these symptoms (could be sucking in air). Usually you have to look at what was touched last.
