TRD Pro Clunk

Sounds like a huge headache. Maybe you can talk them into buying you an aftermarket suspension since theirs continues to give you problems.

Well still no solution. Yesterday my truck went in for the 6th time for the clunk. After the 4th time, they decided to replace the left front suspension components listed below (on the 5th appointment they discovered they ordered the wrong parts once they had truck apart. :ybrick:). Service called and said truck is all set and noise appears to be gone. I pick it up (very skeptically) and sure enough - clunk still there. Turned around and went back. Took tech out AGAIN to show him the noise and he confirms clunk is still there. Service manager says now the next time they take it in (I would not leave it there without a rental from them) they will need to keep it until they exhaust all other possibilities because now they have to answer to Toyota Corporate why they just spent all that $ to replace parts and the problem still persists. We'll see..... waiting for them to deliver a rental today or tomorrow as I told them I could not take any more time off of work for this problem. And the saga continues....

Other than the clunk, I am still loving the truck!

It sounds like Toyota won't do anything until there are instances of people returning their vehicle back for Lemon Law.

How come no one has gone that route?

As for Toyota offering a different suspension albeit aftermarket or OEM from a different 4runner... That will never happen as it is not an approved configuration. How would they offer warranty. They would also be exposing themselves for greater liability in the event there is a more serious issue involving an accident or premature failure.

For me the problem isn't that much of an issue. It doesn't get super cold here, and I spend a lot of time on smooth concrete roads. It just hasn't been worth it to me to go through the hassle of the dealer.

I have been off-road at colder temps, and it can get kind of annoying. I feel for you guys that live in northern climates.

No clunk in my junk. Michigan. Cold. Also verified no clunk in my junk w/ fellow pro owner here who does have the clunk. I only post this to show it is not in all of them. I feel very fortunate.

I also don't have any clunk (knock on wood). I feel bad for you guys that are experiencing this issue. Toyota should be doing something about this. Maybe replacing all the pros with the new fox setup? :boink:

Was able to bring my Pro into the dealer today. it was appx 21 degrees this morning. Had a tech drive it with me riding shotgun. He was able to verify the clunk (heard and felt in the DS floor board). They tightened a couple things and conceded that did not help. At least it is in my service log and verified before it warms up here. They said to bring it back in next week when it is warmer. I'll be staying on top of this.

Took it back to the dealer the following week as instructed. It was in the high 50s. Dealer could not replicate a clunk. However, I still do get a slight pop in the same driver side floor board area even when temps are in the 50s. Not nearly as severe as when it's cold out but it's still there.

*** EDIT: Now escalated and a TMC field specialist tech will be looking at my vehicle soon.

I'll be interested to know what the TMC specialist says. I sent an email to TMC corporate today to find out if they plan to address the issue..

I went down this path last year if you look at the early threads. I had an open case with Toyota Corporate that was never resolved but they did start to talk about buyback option. Like many others, I would rather they fix it since its a small issue that is not a safety concern and I don't like any other vehicles. After slowly changing individual parts on my TRDP suspension, its clear that the front Billy struts are the culprits for me. I was hoping the new position of the sway bar, new UCA's and the lift would get rid of it but this winter the clunk was back. It would have been nice to keep the stock struts but I will be changing them out this spring.

Yeah, I've read through this entire thread a couple of times and I definitely know of all the effort you went through. I just figured that it couldn't hurt for them to get another email from another member.

Heck, if every TRDP owner sent them an email, I bet you that they would end up doing something for us at some point. Perhaps they'd switch us out to 6112s or the new OEM Fox stuff that they're using on the 2017 Tacoma Pro. Who knows. What I do know is if the wheels squeaks enough, eventually it will get oiled. :)

Go for it brother, I did my share of squeaking. Sent you the details on PM.

If it makes you TRD Pro guys feel any better, I have this exact same issue on my SR5 with Bilsteins 5100 all around. I have inspected everything multiple times and can't find anything. Sound is from floor board area (or it seams) and is a clunk /thud over bumps. I live in MN and it started when it got cold last Nov-Dec time frame. I removed the skid plate and thought it went away for about a day but it didn't. I'll be interested to see the outcome.

New to forum. 2016 TRDP owner dealing with "the clunk"

I just sent an email to Toyota expressing my displeaure with this issue. Took my truck in for its 10,000 mile service and told them about the clunking. They heard it but could find nothing wrong. It sounds like an old ford pickup in the right conditions.

Anyway, wanted to say I've put in my .02 with Toyota and say thanks for having the forum so newbies like me have a place to find answers. It's not like these dealerships have many of these to compare it to. At least in my corner of Maine.

Cheers

I had the same thing after pulling my stock front shocks to install spacers and also getting an alignment. I then tightened the lower control arm bolts REALLY tight with a breaker bar, and cranked down on the lower shock bolt. I'm not sure which one was causing it, but everything is silent now.

I did not have the "clunk" until I installed the Toytec lift kit. Driving me nuts. Trying to figure out what was removed and reinstalled that could now be making a clunk.

Maybe you just didn't notice it before or it wasn't cold enough. There's nothing added to the front besides the spacers.

So after my email I was contacted within 12 hours from Toyota corporate. They have been working with the dealer and me. After a lot of diagnostics they have decided to replace the pass front strut assembly. This will go
In next Thursday. I hope it stops this clunk.

my clunk is not affected by temp. Seems to be just as bad at 70 as it is at 10 deg.

I'll let you know if the strut fixes the problem.

I will say Toyota has not disappointed in the customer service department.
