I have a 2019 TRD Pro 4runner and I noticed this about a month ago. Sounds like clunk from the front and rear couldn't verify the front but I got under the truck and had my wife jump up and down on the trailer hitch and the rears shocks are definitely making noise. Only at low speeds not on the highway and it gets better when things warm up. I thought I was crazy glad I found this forum. Gonna make an appointment to bring it in but it doesn't sound like I am going to have any luck.

Can one of you guys get someone to rock the truck in cold weather? Either on the trailer hitch, or with a rear door open pushing up on the top of the door jamb.... and climb under there and pinpoint the sound?
There's very little that can make a shock clunk if it's not leaking oil-- and I'm assuming the nitrogen pressure is there, or it would be clunking constantly.
I went through this with 2 different sets of shocks. I suspect the bottom mount like I mentioned in post #30. I am willing to bet that the spacer that goes through the lower bushing is rattling around in the lower shock mount post, which is a fixed length. This only happened to both king and icon shocks for me when it was cold. The icons had rubber bushings, but the sleeve would still rattle in the cold when the rubber bushings would become harder. The kings have misalignment spacers, and used to rattle like a bastard until I found it.
It's unlikely that a tech is going to find this on a hydraulic lift. It's going to be blamed on the shock. Past experiences with Fox make me think that they're not going to be helpful at all.
Get someone to rock the truck in the cold so that you can recreate the sound, and climb under there and put your hands on the shock. If you hold the lower mount and the sound stops, the fix is an easy one.

This is what the lower mount looks like. When the male bolt is tightened, this post is a fixed length, no matter the torque.
Clunking at slow speed in the winter was the sound I fought for years. It only takes a tiny bit of slop to make a big amount of noise here. And it can be great all year until the temperature drops.

I contacted Fox back in feb or March. They were not happy Toyota was blaming the shocks and said if it was the shock they would have Toyota tech there finding a fix.
It’s simply Toyota not backing there products. I’m pissed as I waited two years for my dealer to get another PRO in and this happened.
Also, for the guy asking about price, yes the prices went up and they are about 50 now. Hell my old dealer looked up some when we tried to trade another place and they some were over 50. But anything with an engine was over priced in SD so don’t call people crazy, it’s simply supply and demand.

Hey everyone. I’m experiencing the very same issue now. After buying (and loving) my 2016 Pro I decided to hand that one over to my wife and buy a 2019. Never had a single issue with the Bilsteins. Plush ride, zero noise, great suspension. The 16 has 65k on it now. Still perfect. When I bought my 2019 in March I thought the Fox ride was a bit stiffer, but pretty good.
At less than 100 miles, though, I began to experience a horrible clunking noise from the front suspension. Brought it to the dealer and had it checked out. After 3 days of every tech in the shop looking it over they determined that “something was installed upside down” and the springs weren’t seated correctly. Not sure how that’s possible, but I chalked it up to them having no clue or some guy at port being hungover. It was pretty good during the summer months until about September. I drove north for an atv trip where the temperature was a bit colder. On slow speed gravel roads the front and rear suspension literally sounded like it was going to rattle off. It was so bad that I pulled over and checked the torque of all critical bolts on the side of the road. From that point on into the winter it’s progressively gotten worse. The truck rides like crap compared to my 2016 and clunks all over the place. The small lip at the end of my driveway makes me cringe. I can also feel the thud on my feet reverberating on the floor board.
This time I told it to a more local dealer that services my 2016. They looked at it for a day and said they wanted me to drive around with the lead tech. He and I told a ride, found some bumps and replicated it. It was warmer that day so it took some patience to replicate. He said it wasn’t a safety issue and that the pets would need to be special ordered. The dealer was in contact with the regional Toyota tech and they needed to make sure they could isolate the issue before Toyota would authorize a fix. They assured me it would be taken care of.
The print out I received doesn’t specify what parts are on order, but they are indeed SOP (special order parts). Leading me to believe they’re replacing the fox suspension. Apparently the expected delivery date for the parts is 1/7 last time they checked. So we will see... this is also apparently a know issue and Toyota is aware of it.
I’ll keep everyone posted. My fear is that they replace them and the same issue occurs... I won’t be a happy camper if my (second) 50k truck sounds like it’s going to fall apart and they insist it’s “normal”.

I was at the dealer today to service the wife's camry hybrid. I asked the service advisor if they knew of any TSB's or complaints on the Fox suspension they sad no and the tech tip from this thread they couldn't even pull up. I am going to try to video the noise this weekend and post. I also have an appointment jan 23.

Please post up what your service includes, especially if it includes replacing the suspension. Maybe if enough of us complain, Toyota will take this seriously and make a fix for it!

Please let us know if they actually replace the shocks and if you could take a pic of the sheet so I can show my dealer. I’m still trying to get Toyota to allow them to order them since they blocked the order a few weeks ago
I talked to my tech yesterday and Toyota still hasn’t cleared my VIN to have the shocks replaced. He said they will not do it till it’s approved. He said if they are replacing they normally do it by regions. Guess being the 3rd reported case doesn’t mean crap besides having to live with it longer then anyone else .
Anyone that actually gets the replaced please post pics of the service papers so we can show the dealers as I’m pushing this again with the main Toyota headquarters

Toyota already ruled this as no big deal and wnl. Nobody is getting anything changed by a dealer with Toyota’s blessing.
And after my talk I just had yet again with Toyota headquarters we are all screwed on anything replaced related to the suspension. I asked if they can replace the sway bar bushing as that makes the same issue an they said no due tot he tech bulletin. I said will they ever replace anything related to the suspension and they said no. I said so their is no warranty for them them? And my reply was we will keep telling you the same thing and was inform I was only called for customer service reasons. When I pointed out that means fixing an issue and following threw with warranty they hung up on me. I was also instructed that any fixes for the suspension I needed would have to be done by myself.

That’s not even close to the noise we are talking about. It’s a hollow thunk like a blown out bushing or strut. Also you can feel a knock on the floorboard when it does it in very cold temps.
That sounds rubbing on the shock to me
I agree a new truck shouldn’t be making that just was saying it’s not the same as we are talking about. Also, I’ve not seen it on the rear but saw some other threads talk about the rear.
I’ve emailed FOx service asking it they can fix or service and tune mine if I pull them and send them in to see if that could be a way to fix this issue

That just sounds like the seal in the shock is dry and squeaking.. Id have to double check what to put on the shaft, but a simple lube should fix that.
Mine in SD was so bad the passenger floor board felt like a hammer hit it and everyone in the truck can hear it. I can feel it travel to the driver floorboard. But to them that’s normal

Are Fox shocks bypass shocks? I'm not so familar with trucks or SUVs, but bypass shocks in the tuner/scca racer communities all click and make noises. My Ohlins DFV shocks (which are bypass shocks) on my Honda S2000 click and clunk when it is cold outside. You can hear it a lot when you first drive it in them morning and it's chilly outside (like below 50ish). Once the shocks warm up (by driving around and the shocks soaking up the spring's forces), the clicks/clunks go away.
I've also had the privilege of being invited to drive a friend's scca rallycross car. I asked him... "hey do these things use bypass shocks (not knowing anything about rally), and he said yes and asked why... so I told him my Ohlins makes the same sounds as his rallycross car.
So perhaps what Toyota is saying is actually normal.
