Trd pro lift question

How does this thing ride? I had a 2014 Tacoma that I put the toytec spacer on the front and it road like shit. It was like the front shocks were at the limit and whenever the truck went over a bump it yanked the truck down. Also the one on the Tacoma was on top not on the bottom. Let me know thanks.
 
Rides amazing,even better than before when it was stock. I clipped a curb yesterday and could barely feel it. The dive when breaking hard has been reduced a good 50%. I love being 3" lifted. I love my 4runner. I look for reasons to go places. I dream someday to have a cabin at the top of a mountain with a dirt road. How sweet would that be. I cant wait to retire and get out of the concrete rat race i live in now!!
 
No rubbing, even at full lock in reverse? Curious...

It's easy to say there's no rub in normal grandma-style street driving. It would be a very unwelcome surprise to start rubbing when you're working the suspension on the trails for the first time.


Iam going to Utah later this year,i will let you know if it rubs.
 
I don't understand so your getting a lift but decreasing the wheel travel when off-road (articulation). The entire idea of having a Trd pro wish th this suspension is to have lift and also have extended travel. This is effectively pushing the shock to its limits or close at least by making the spring taller.

I believe there is extra room in it to accommodate a larger spring. I hear that Eibach has achieved this.
 
Has anyone just put new coils on the front for extra lift?

The new coils (if I presume you are looking at stiffer, able to handle more weight or longer) when mounted into the Stock TRD-Pro Bilsteins won't give more lift.

For the TRD Pro version of the Bilsteins the shock housing only has two slots for the lower perch position thus not giving any choice to level out the "driver side lean" and raise the vehicle higher.

The after-market Bilstein 5100's have at least 3 slots if not 4 for the lower-perch thus providing lift height adjust-ability (I can't find specific data on number of perch positions but 3 for sure).

The new springs (stiffer or longer) would still have to be squeezed into the same distance between the top of the shock and either of the two lower-perch mount and thus not give any lift.

It will give a much stiffer front end though in case you wanted to add more weight like a steel bumper and winch etc. but no lift in that scenario.

Again all of this is with the presumption of still using the same, stock TRD-Pro suspension components (original top spacer, original Bilstein and original lower-perch).

Right I understand they may have achieved it. This does not change that fact that you are changing the premiss of them putting these shocks on to begin with. Say if you did not have the added travel as you do on the pro suspension then you would be pushing the shock to its limit and will cause stress on the bottom of the housing.

I saw a link for a Toytec lift but it included springs that it doesn't look like you changed out. If you wouldn't mind can you tell me where you got the kit from and if there is some special detail I might need to find it? You planning on adding the Spidertrax?
looks so good. i pick my new TRD Pro up from the dealership soon. can't wait to get a little lift and new shoes on it
 
When I purchased the Toytec 2" TRD lift kit back in November 2015, I asked for the Sway-Away 1 and 1/2" rear instead of the 2" Toytec Superflex spring that was part of the original kit. This coincided with SAW being bought by AFE. So Sway-Away (SAW) was moving their equipment and offices to the AFE location. Took about 6 weeks after the order was placed to receive the rear springs.

Technical issues with my ABS delayed me getting the kit installed. Turned out a bad driver for the LED headlight was triggering ABS computer to claim an error.

All that got fixed so finally in mid-January I was able to get the local off-road fab shop to install it. Alignment was done at a different shop and the steering wheel is not straight but I'm taking it to Toyota for an alignment as I no longer trust the original shop that did the alignment after a failed second attempt to have it straightened out.

Front coil has the 1" thick, lower perch and a 1/2" top spacer. Rear has the SAW 1 and 1/2" coil in silver (although it did raise the rear about 2", since there is no label on the springs I don't know what I really got).

Stock Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70/17 with 18K miles.

No wheel spacers.

Driver Side Lower shock perch installed at original 2nd ring from bottom on shock. Passenger side lower shock perch on the same 1st ring from the bottom.

I like the ride as it is not much stiffer but that is subjective to each person. I love the look with the exception that I would like the rear to sit a little bit lower. That's why I asked for the SAW 1 and 1/2" rear as opposed to the Toytec 2" rear. But maybe the SAW being 12% stiffer as opposed to the Toytec 10% and there not being any real weight in the rear I might still be getting 2" rear lift.

The small lift did give me extra confidence and performance in the 29" snow-fall we recently had in my area of the East Coast. I got through a long and un-plowed street and court and just had to shovel a short path to the ruts I had just made while turning around in the court.

Measurements were taken in same spot in the garage yielding consistent numbers however they are from the ground to the fender.

Front Passenger Before - 35 and 1/2"
Front Passenger After - 37 and 1/4"
Rear Passenger Before - 37 and 1/2"
Rear Passenger After - 39 and 1/2"

Front Driver Before - 35 and 1/4"
Front Driver After - 37 and 1/8"
Rear Driver Before 37"
Rear Driver After 39"

Looks like bigger tires are in my future. I would like the 285 KO2's but as this is my daily driver the 275's might create less wear on the drive components for the 4 or 5 times I get to go wheeling per year.

I'm interested in this lift but mine is a DD and I drive upwards of 2 hours per day so I don't want to screw with the setup...just want to sit a little higher.
 
I wish everyone would measure from the center of the hub to the fender flare, no matter what size the tire, no matter, the unevenness of the ground your vehicle is sitting on, you'll get an accurate measurement for your lift.

That is correct stock TRD wheels, tires and no spacers.
Mine is a daily driver too and when I do go onsite it's a 2 hour round trip minimum. So far (a bit over 6 weeks) absolutely NO regrets.
Wife doesn't much like lifted vehicles but that's a different story. She does like sitting up higher when riding in it and that it is a tad easier to spot at the grocery/mall parking lot!
I wish the TRD-Pro package came like this in the first place!

I get it and understand why but without precision equipment (finding the exact center of the hub other than "eye-balling" it) that gives me two points to eye-ball for a measurement rather than just eye-balling the fender edge as the ground is fairly reliable.

In any case, eye-balling the center of the hub to the edge of the fender I got 22" for both front sides and 24 for both rear sides. I did not take the same measurements before the lift install, so unfortunately I don't have comparisons.

More pictures for comparison. I saw a 5th Gen Limited in the same parking lot and pulled up next to it. I didn't go too crazy as I did not want to alert suspicion. There is some "cheating" in the perspective with my 4Runner closer to the camera perhaps making it look taller due to vantage point. Not a dramatic difference but 2" is 2" right?

At the most, you're only going to be off by no more than 1/8 inch at the center of the hub. It is really easy to eyeball. My front is 22 11/16 and my rear is 23 1/2. They are the same on both sides. Thanks.

How long have you had the rear 1.5" SAW's on? I feel like mine are still closer to 2" of lift than the 1.5". I've had mine on since January 11th so almost 9 weeks. They have settled maybe an 1/8th of an inch. I would rather have the rear at the 23.5 like you have.

I've had it on about 500 miles. 200 of those have been off road, with quite a bit of gear. By off road, I mean slow moving, a lot of articulation in the back. I actually waited to take my vehicle in to get aligned so that everything would settle first. Mine has settled almost an inch since it was first installed, but that measurement was taken before the rack was installed.
