Trd pro lift question

Anybody had this Toytec TRD Pro kit on for a while and have a long-termish review they can share/post? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this kit and ruining my marriage.

Had mine in since January 23, 2016. Had Toytec send me the SAW 1&1/2" rear instead of their 2" rear spring but still got 2" from the SAW's in the rear.

It's been through the East Coast Blizzard of 2016, off-roading at AOAA in PA, off-roading at Rausch Creek in PA. and regular, daily driving through the pot-hole addled streets of DC and surrounding suburbs. During the Rausch Creek visit I hit a few more of the blue rated trails than ever before.

I would say pull-the trigger but just realized you added the part about ruining your marriage. My wife doesn't like lifted trucks so she was a little frowny when she saw how high the rear looks. But it's not an obnoxious lift, and she does like sitting a bit higher up while inside. So the marriage has still survived. The rear has settled ever so slightly or I am just getting used to it now.

It rides great, gives just that much more confidence over the more rocky trails and does not reduce downward flex too much.

Best of all...it is easier to spot the roof line in the mall parking-lot.

Only draw back is that if you end up visiting garages with a 6'2" ceiling height you will have to look elsewhere for parking.

It's a great ride quality IMO. The wife gave me the whatever when I told her I was doing it. But was a bit easier for her after I bought my "toy car". The lift was child's play, LOL.

That said, the first thing she said when I came home after lift was "your tires look stupid". I said would you like me to buy new larger ones now, I gladly will. LOL. I have 42K on the originals so not to far off for the proper look.

Yeah. She's not in the know yet on the lift, but I did break the idea to her that the KO2s would be better for us in the Colorado snow and the E rating would be better for us out camping. She was totally on board for the tire swap. One thing at a time...

There is one TRDP at work. I really like the idea of parking next to them with the lift since I'm 99.9% sure theirs is stock - not that their is anything wrong with that.

The roof height makes me a little nervous, but I'm planning to go Gobi stealth no rise, toytec Trd pro lift and KO2s in 275/70/17. So, I think it will be close to the same height as my 2013 FJ trail teams I'm trading for it.

What a great car the FJ has been.

I'm thinking the same on the tires although I am still flip-flopping over the BFG AT KO2 34x10.5x17 or the 275/70/17 (they both weigh the same amount since the 34" are D rated as opposed to the 275's being E). I don't want to have to do the Body-mount-chop and have not gotten a clear indication from those riding the 34" ones if they had to do it. Since they are only 10.5 (basically the same width of the stock 265/70/17) it is really only the larger radius that comes into play and the wheel well may have enough room for that without major cutting.

Still loving the Toytec lift. It has been said many times before on this forum but the TRD Pro package should have already been like that.

Just last night, at a light another driver in a Black TRD Pro was right next to me. We complemented each other on the choice of ride and it looked like he had the Toytec lift too. Although I didn't get time to ask but he was level to me and I could see the extra space in the wheel wells.

I think you won't go wrong with deciding on the kit. If the wife said "OK" to the AT KO2's just admit to her that it looks like you need to make more room for them by getting the lift kit!

Seems pretty steep. I had a reputable shop in Denver install and align for 325. As far as balancing the tires..I just took the truck back to discount since they have lifetime balancing.

You mind telling me which shop did this for you? You can post or PM, whichever is more consistent with forum rules. How is it holding up for you?

Quick question about the ToyTec kit. If the Superflex coils are a 2" lift and the optional SAW 1.5" is actually 2 inches, what's the difference in ride quality? One is 2% stiffer right, but would you even feel that? Is one a better quality spring over the other? Thanks!

Calling all lifted owners...

I know this has been done already. I just want confirmation from someone who has a similar setup. I have the Gobi no-rise Stealth rack on order and am considering the standard Toytec (not sway-away) lift to go on 275/70/17s or 285/70/17s. My garage trim at its lowest point is 81.5". Anybody have a similar setup and clear a garage this height or lower? I'd love to go 285, but maybe 275 is the safer option, given the difference in diameter?

I don't think that springs are capable of being built to exact measurements. Maybe technology exists to make them pretty close but there are too many variables in the type of steel, temperature when they are rolled and twisted etc. I believe they can get a "close to" give-or-take.

The SAW is supposed to be 1.5" and 2% stiffer than the stock rear but there are always differences. In my case the ride did not get any harsher at all. No one in my family mentioned or noticed a harsher ride.

If I had a bit more weight on the rear like a steel bumper etc. the rear might actually sit around 1.5" over stock instead of 2". But then again someone else might get a set that actually gives 1.5" of lift even with no weight in the back.

If my math is correct that is about 6'9.5" and I have 6'8" in my garage. I am on stock Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70/17 and I still think I have about 5" of clearance left. Based on the published specs for the Nitto's and the difference between the BFG AT KO2's, a 275/70/17 will probably only net an extra 1/4" of height and the 285 might net you a 1/2". I believe these are measurements on non-mounted and un-inflated tires. My Nitto's for example advertise as 31.6" diameter. Mounted on my truck I measure them at about 30.5". Of-course these are P-Rated so they deform more than the LT E rated BFG's would under load.

The 275's show 32.2" overall diameter so that is really only about 1/2" diameter more than the Nitto's and since the lift provided is only from the Radius measurement that would net about 1/4" over the Nitto's unloaded etc.

With less deformation of the LT E rated tires the BFG's may give you up to 1/2" once the tires are under load when compared to the same load on the Nitto Terra Grappler.

Similar deal for the 285's that show 32.7". When looking at advertised differences between the NTG 265/70/17 and the BFG AT KO2 285/70/10 that's 1.1" so a tiny fraction over 1/2" of actual lift. But when compared to the loaded number of 30.5" on a P-rated tire vs the same load on a E-rated LT tire it may net really close to 1".

Long story short I believe you will fit into your garage unless the stealth rack goes up more than 5" or 6" above the factory rack and shark fin height.

I have the toytec trd kit installed on my pro and ko2s in 275s installed. I will measure my garage and let you know. Feel free to pm if you want to check out my setup.

I like all the math, Boyds. Those were kind of the numbers I was coming up with. I think the stealth no rise option is advertised as 5 or 5.5 inches above roof level. So, not much above factory rack or fin. Maybe a couple of inches. Thanks for the all the detail.

I don't have the Gobi rack. I have the stock rack rails and the tallest point is the shark fin antenna at 75 inches. My garage door is 82 inches at the lowest point. Here is a pic between the fin and the door and I have about 7 inches to clear.

I went with the 275 K02s before adding the toytec TRD kit and they look a little small after getting the additional lift. If you are going to go with 275s I would do the sway away 1.5 in the back vs the toytec springs. I am looking at upgrading to the 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grappler as they offer a C load range in that tire and I have found the KO2 E's a little rough for around town.

Correction, I have 7 inches from the black part of the roof rail and not the fin to the lowest part of the garage door.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'm feeling more and more confident about this. Just need to get the truck, rack, tires, and lift. Then I'll be all set.

I got a quote from one of the shops that Toytec recommended when I spoke with them and they are also a Toytec authorized dealer. They quoted me $225 for the install and 75 for the front end alignment. Seems like a pretty good deal for the work. Could be as little as $650 after install.

Nice deal!

Wanted to extend a big thanks for all the great info provided in this thread. I just had the Toytec TRD lift (with 1.5 SAW coils) and 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers installed at my local Toyota Dealer. Truck drives like a dream and as many have said....should have come this way from the factory!

Congratulations!

You can't leave us hanging like that though!

My 2015 TRD Pro

Toytec Lift, CBI Rear Bumper and Slee Sliders.

After installing the rear CBI swing out bumper it sagged a little so I decided to go with the TRD Toytec kit that includes the spacers in the front and the lifted rear spring. Could not be happier.

BTW, if you are thinking about a rear bumper the CBI fabrication is amazing! The actual swing itself is super heavy duty.
