Trd pro lift question

Here's a dumb question. Why do people choose the Toytec TRD pro lift kit instead of just adding spacers in the front and back?

I bought some 285s and need to lift my TRD Pro, but I'm thinking about just adding some spacers to the front and back instead of replacing the rear spring, like with the Toytec lift.

You don't need a lift to add 285s to your TRDP - I have KO2s with no rubbing, no fender mods

I think at least aesthetically, it looks better with a lift when you have larger tires. Larger tires look too "stuffed" in there otherwise. But it's good to know rubbing isn't a problem as well. Thanks!

I've skimmed 90% of this thread and this is the first time I've seen that 285's will fit the TRD Pro without a lift of some sort. Do you have pictures of your 285KO2s with now lift?

Here you go

Thanks for the picture and response. Those are 285 70r17? I bought my TRD Pro used. The previous owner added what I believe is a Pro Comp 3" Front/ 2" Rear spacer lift with 285 70r17 KO2s. It looks great but I think it rides/handles like crap so I'm considering removing it. If I can get away with removing it with the 285KO2's on it then it doesn't cost anything but some time and an alignment.

How do spacers impact ride quality if the suspension components are unchanged? My assumption was that ride quality would be the same as stock since the same shocks and springs are used. But maybe I’m not thinking of something.

I am not an expert by any means, but I'm under the impression that when adding a spacer on top of the strut assembly and squeezing it back in the coil is being compressed more than it's stock configuration causing more preload and a stiffer ride.

I could have sworn the spacers were placed outside of the strut assembly so the spring has no change. Basically just the location of where it is mounted is "lower" relative to the other suspension components. But maybe that different mounting location somehow causes it to compress more...never knew that.

If you'r not worried about the additional inch and want ride quality, just go back to the stock setup. I am running the 285/70/17 KO2s - I will however be adding the Toytec 1" leveling to try and combat nosedive and that provides a bit more room as well without sacrificing any ride quality or having to mess with the UCAs.

If the tire rubs at stock height the tire will eventually rub even with a lift when you hit a bump or articulate the suspension. A lift will just get rid of the rubbing while on smooth pavement. Bumpstop drops on both the front and rear may prevent rubbing when articulating.

Can someone do me a favor and post a pic of the CV boots of a stock TRD Pro. I just replaced my suspension over the weekend and I’d like to see a comparison. Thanks in advance!

Couple pics for ref stock 16 TRD Pro
Sorry about sideways view. Just turn head 90*

I currently have a 1 inch spacer up front of my TRD Pro and am looking to get some 285s with no rake.

My understanding is that the King kit is a 3 inch lift. The front are coilovers that are obviously adjustable but the rear is 3 inches. Is there a way to only have two inches in the rear? I don't want any rake...

anyone here have the king kit from toytec and can confirm?

I have 1" rake to compensate for load, unless you get fully adjustable coils when you load up the back you'll be dragging on the rear. something to think about

Thanks - the truck will be more unloaded than loaded.

With this kit below - how is the rear getting 4 inches of lift with 2 inch springs? This is something I really want to avoid - I only want 2 inches in the back most and 2.5-3 inches up front....the person who commented in the review says he got for 4inches in the back...

Toytec TRD Pro lift and 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

No rubbing so far......haven’t driven off-road yet, will see how it does off-road.

Stock wheels, no spacers.

Ridge Grapplers are quiet and smooth. Had the lift a few weeks before moving up to 285s. Very pleased with lift and tires.

Anyone running cooper stt pro 285/70/17 with this set up? I currently just bought this lift and those tires and seeing that the cooper stt pro's are on the larger side there might be fitment issues. Id like to use wheel spacers but if they create more of a problem then id definitely be ok with saving the 200 bucks.

I have the same Pro Comp Kit, 2018 Trd Pro, I installed the front spacers and all was good, but if you install the diff drop you can't get the front skid plate on with out spacers for it. Also when I was installing the rear spacers I had issues with the spacers not fitting correctly on the isolators. I called Pro Comp and was told that the kit was for a FJ and the rear spacers will not work for my 4runner unless I modify the isolators or by FJ isolators. So that being said check the rear spacers to see if they are seated properly.

Ordered and installed this kit from Toytec:

I'm honestly disappointed at how much rake I have now. I know it says it lifts both the front and rear 2" - maybe I just didn't notice that much rake from the factory?

In any case... I would like to drop the rear to sit more level.

Anyone have recommendations for springs to accomplish this?
