Trd pro lift question

Please do - I'm still debating between 1.5/1 or 2/1.5 for incoming Pro with 285s.

What year pro? I have pics of every combo on almost every color 4Runner :) Call or text me at 717-319-2100 and I'll send you some more pics.

Burtman Industries 5th gen lifts, On Sale - for sr5, trd pro, etc.

Here's a 2.25/2 for fun, can also do this for ya:

Fj trd spring is only 600#, good luck finding Tacoma Baja edition trd 650# springs. I suggest locating a set of king or icon in 3x14 in 650# with all that weight. I seen more trd springs sag with additional weight. Not all springs are created equal. 700 are pretty harsh from what my Tacoma 6112 guys tell me even with front end weight.

So I have the stock TRDP '17 suspension with Toytec spacers (1" lower and 0.5" upper) in front and 2" springs in the rear.

I replaced the front springs with Bilstein 14" x 600lb and ended up with too much lift -- had only 1" of downtravel and the front was about half an inch higher than the rear. So I removed the top 0.5" spacer and the stance is near even now.

I got the slightly heavier spring rate since I have a 90lb bumper on the front, but now the ride is significantly harsher than stock. I go over a speed bump and after the front wheel reaches the top of the bump, it feels like the spring unloads the compression before the tire has a chance to hit the ground which makes for a harsh sounding/feeling ride...while the rear absorbs the bump quietly and smoothly.

I see others go 650lb and even 700lb spring rate -- are you noticing this same behavior? Should I go down to a 550lb 14" spring like the King's?

Wait so you kept the preload spacer on with a longer spring? That might be the issue, with a longer spring the preload should not be required. You could still use the top hat if you like, that should not make it harsh to where it's unbearable.

Maybe I'm confused, but aren't both the top and bottom spacers acting as preload? They both take up space inside the coil perch -- the bottom spacer replaces the stock spring perch while the top spacer sits between the top of the spring and the subframe housing. Both seem to me to preload the spring?

The bottom spacer I have and top spacer I used to have installed.

I attached a picture of both spacers installed before I removed the top one.

Edit: Ok I was confused -- the top spacer isn't a preload. I see now that it sits on top of the coilover and not inside it.

I would advise you remove the bottom toytec perch and replace it with the stock perch. You shouldn't compress the spring if you already went with a one inch longer spring.

Below thread post he did what you pretty much done, ask him how his ride feels looks to be the same close spec springs just TRD version but with aftermarket UCAs

Yeah you are way over doing it. No wonder the ride is so harsh. If you are going to run the 14" 600# springs then you need to get rid of all of the spacers, the bottom and the top. You need to run the stock top hat and lower perches. You probably have little to no down travel. I run those same springs on my stock Pro shocks and got about 2.5" of lift and the ride is great. It's a bit firmer the stock but not harsh in the least. Good luck.

In addition to what the others said, you look to have the FJ 6112 spring. I just wrote about that in the 6112/8112 thread.

I somehow got that one, too, and it feels a bit too soft. I am in the process of figuring out what happened and whether it is supposed to be identical to the 4R's, but it does not quite feel right offroad, it does not feel like a 600lb spring to me.

EDIT: yes, everything I find in Google suggests that the two are identical so the part number should not matter.

In that case what I feel is the enormous difference between the stock shock and the 6112 when used with a spring of the same rate. But I do like the "stiffer" spring feel, I guess?

That's interesting. They are definitely a different part number from my 4runner ones.

Makes sense — thanks! Though, the owner before me did the Toytec lift and I don’t have the stock lower perches. Toyota doesn’t sell them individually either, so I’m stuck with these unless I want to buy new struts (these used are also tough to come by).

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm getting the 6112 spring perches from Bilstein tomorrow and going to try installing them.

I'm guessing removing the bottom spacer will result in a loss of 1" lift, so I was thinking of re-installing the 1/2" top spacer (I get about 5/8"-3/4" lift from it).
I know it has been suggested to run no spacers with 14" springs, but with 90 lbs of added front bumper, I'm looking to reduce the rake as seen below.

The ride is only harsh when I come down from a bump. I'm hoping getting rid of the bottom preload spacer will fix this. If I decide to re-install the top spacer, I should be good? (both in ride quality and safe amount of down travel?)

(edit: removing bottom preload spacer fixed this problem)

I was trying to predict what it'll look like to avoid all this back and forth I've been through.
In case anyone was curious, I have a few pictures of my trials and errors.

The 14" springs + Toytec spacer lift combo was definitely too much and had a slight negative rake.

The attached pictures in order:
Toytec top and bottom spacers, stock suspension
Toytec top and bottom spacers, Bilstein 14" x 600 lb springs
Toytec bottom spacers only, Bilstein 14"x600 lb springs
Toytec top spacers only, Bilstein 14"x600 lb springs

After reading all 87 pages on here, I think I'm more confused than when i started. A little background and then my questions for the board... I have a stock Cement 17 Pro. I'm about to install a SSO bumper/warn winch, roof rack and sliders. Additionally, I will be pulling an off-road teardrop (tongue weight ~450 lbs). Not counting the SSO hardware, I'll have an additional ~1000 lbs between people/gear/food typically. This is my daily driver, but it's a short trip to work. I'm not looking for much lift (1-2 inches at most, hopefully keeping the Pro suspension), but I want to avoid getting too much front end dip due to the bumper/winch and hopefully avoid the rear sagging super low with the extra gear and trailer. With all that said:
1. Any recommendations to help with the front end sag? I think several folks on here have SSO or similar bumpers with a winch.
2. Thoughts on springs or other set up in the rear to avoid the significant dip when loaded?
3. Any reason to go to E rather than C tires due to the overall weight increase? I just wore out my stock tires and need a new set.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or insight!

lol i too just read all 87 pages and i think i may have insight for you (anyone with knowledge, please correct me if i'm wrong). I just purchased and installed 4runner trd pro bilsteins suspension with the toytec 2" lift kit FJ4RPRO - Toytec lift kit for TRD Pro 4Runners. after installing both, i still have a factory positive rake of 2 inch front to back (back 2 inch higher). This kit comes with a bottom 1 inch perch and .5 inch top hat spacer which should yield you 2 inch of lift in the front. it also comes with springs for the rear which also yields 2 inches in lift.

so to answer your questions:

1- if you have a lot of weight up front or would prefer a more leveled look relative to the positive rake, people have been replacing the front coil on their trd coilers with 3x14'' springs with various load capacity/spring rate. for you I'd probably recommend something like 650 or 700lb spring but remember that as you go up in rating, the ride will get harsher. if you're not looking for much of lift, keeping things stock with the toytec 2 kit should be fine as you'll lose some or all of the 2 inch lift depending on the weight up front with bumpers winch etc.

2- you'll have to go for beefier springs in the rear with higher load capacity/spring rate to avoid loss in lift but that may increase the positive rake (increase rear lift) you have when unloaded especially since you'll have permanent weight up front.
I think the toytec springs should work well for you but you may also upgrade to their super flex hd coils (or any others) to help with rear sag when loaded. toytec may even allow you to swap the regular super flex coil in the kit for their hd ones. call them. I know they do it for the 1.5" springs in place of the 2 " springs for people.

3- I wouldn't do E rated tires (10 play) unless you plan on going rock crawling with sharp rocks; it'll kill your mpg because they're much heavier and probably will be louder too. C rated tires should be fine with your weight, you just may need to increase your tire pressure when loaded.

It looks like i wrote you an essay lol hope it helped!

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm interested in how everything worked out for Cement4R above, or if anyone else has direct feedback on this set up. I'm about to pull the trigger on 14"x 650lb up front (bumper and winch) with no spacers, and trying to decide between Wheelers T13 or something else in the rear for some stiffness and a 1.5in lift. I'm not quite sure how much the 14x650 will raise the front with that set up.

Hi all, I'm lifting my 17 TRD Pro this weekend, using FJ PRO Coils (Part #PTR13-35140-AA) on the stock TRD Pro shocks up front.

Is anybody aware if I'll need to adjust the setting on the stock TRD Pro shock to allow the extra inch in the spring?

what setting? are there perch settings on TRD pro front shocks?
