Having explored this option in the past 2 weeks, it is the cheaper and more sensible way to go. I looked at getting the SR5 Premium and having an Icon Stage 7 and ARB Air Lockers front and rear put it. But I couldn't get past the Two-Toned interior, I didn't like it. So I opted with a '16 Trail, had them cut a hole in the roof and added a Stage 7 Icon Lift. I may not be entirely cheaper than a TRD Pro but definitely more capable.
Before I looked at buying my '14 Trail Edition I was holding out for the TRD Pro, but I had a unique opportunity to drive one at Overland Expo 2014 and decided I could do a lot more with the price difference between the two rigs and opted for the Trail, know my money would go a lot farther!
Ha, at some point it becomes user preference. This was mine, not saying that everyone needs to go Stage 7, but the Bilsteins lose everytime when compared against Icons....in my humble opinion. Toyota TRD, is going to be conservative with what they can put on the market and not be liable for massive recalls or warranty issues. Put on your rig what you think you're going to use it for.
And I could have saved even more money had I gone with Stage 1, please refer to my earlier comment. It was my preference.

You asked the question. People are simply trying to help you attain your goals. If you have the finances for stage 7 icons go with what you want. I personally have stage 5 with metal tech rear lowers and uppers and it is more than capable for what I desire. I know that Lawn Dart has a similar set up. This forum is for questions followed by advice and opinions of others. If its not wanted then remove your thread. This isn't high school musical two. Build your rig how you want.

With that said, I'm impressed that within the span of one comment you've resorted to personal attacks. I guess I don't know what concerns me more, that you're stating that I'm mentally disabled because I presented facts, rather than your simple personal preference which wasn't backed up by anything more than your feelings. Or the comment that insinuates that my sweet, sweet, mother is or was deficient at her job as a parent. Knowing my mother, who is a lovely and caring woman, I know this to be wrong on your part. And if you ever met her she'd gladly make you a lovely dinner despite the actual fact that you are likely a piece of shit. Actually, that's probably not true, and like most human beings you're composed of 80 percent water, and the rest being shit. The exact ratio escapes me, I'm sure with further posts we'll determine your make up plus or minus a few percentile.
Now back to the matter at hand, if all you're saying is "I got a Stage 7 because it made me feel good, and feeling good inside is all that matters." Then by all means, feel free to put forth that opinion. We will then segregate it into the pile of opinions that mean jack shit. Whereas the OP was soliciting feedback that likely pertained to appreciable ride difference, build quality, weight capacity, and the critical one: performance to dollar ratio, of which your response didn't seem to help in any of those categories.
So again, welcome to the forum, keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle until we've come to a complete stop.

Honestly, it's immature to post your sarcastic comments when we all know how you feel about the TRD PRO suspension and the TRD PRO in general. I could care less that I don't have the best suspension in my TRDP. I never said anything about "my truck will beat up your truck".
