I bought a set of 285/70/17 Toyo AT/2 tires from Tread Depot last week. Bought them on Saturday, shipped Monday, arrived Thursday. Some questions were asked regarding whether they are old tires. The DOT numbers are 3915 meaning week 39 of 2015. So they were made last month. About as new as it gets.
Cost $68 to get them mounted and balanced at discount tire, and I'll have to go back in as one of the rears has an imbalance I can feel at highway speed.
Otherwise it was pretty easy to do. Saved a lot on the deal. Even if discount tire price matched the $720 price, the sales tax would be another $60, so I still did better than a price match.
As far as fitment, they rubbed pretty bad on the coilover remote reserviors that were mounted in the FJ Cruiser position. So I made new mounts to move them closer to the 4runner style mount position. (I have Fox 2.5 RR that were for an FJ Cruiser. They have a slightly different hose and different mount brackets - but I picked them up for dirt cheap, so I can't complain about needing a few minor adjustments).
I'm kinda neutral on the at2s. Not super impressed with highway manners or noise. They better have great traction or I'll probably get rid of them in favor of something like a Goodyear AT that's both quiet and pretty good in wet/snow type conditions. I have a 2nd set of wheels for mud tires, and an FJ40 on 39" swamper TSLs for the really fun stuff. I like my daily driver to drive nicely.
I do like the look of slightly larger tires.
