Hey guys, im in the middle of looking for a new lift gate since mine is completely destroyed, including window motor, and wiper motor..My current one has no spoiler or back up camera..If i buy a tailgate with a spoiler and back up camera will it fit and wire up fine? I understand the camera wont work, and i dont care, but i just want to make sure everything else will work and wire up the same?
The reason I'm curious is because when I go to eBay or car parts.com they ask if mine is with or without spoiler, camera, ect. I thought all lift gates would be interchangeable for the 4th gens. Thanks for your input!

I Bought a Used One!

I needed a rear gate to replace the one on the SR5.

I bought the tail gate for $450 (It came with a few extra parts)

$450!!?? I'm jealous haha..I'm seeing prices around $900 here. Did your original tailgate have a spoiler or back up camera? If not, did the new one fit and wire up fine?
One last question..when you remove the tailgate, do you have to cut any wires to get it off, or is there just a clip to unplug?

thanks,

That's funny, I wound up buying a whole 4Runner for just the lift gate too haha. Lift gates are hard to come by for a decent price.

Wires all plug in. My SR5 is an 03. The parts truck is an 03 Sport. 2003 did not have back up cameras. I think they came later in the 4th gen. Maybe 08 or 09. No spare tire carrier either. I tried parting my #1 it's very hard work and no one wants to pay for my time.

Thanks a lot man..that helps! I just didn't know if wiring would be different if you interchange a tailgate without a spoiler with a tailgate with a spoiler, since the spoiler has a brake light in it (i think).

Even if it doesn't have a spoiler, it still has a third brake light at the top of the tailgate. Every vehicle manufactured after 1986 has been required to have a third brake light. So, I'd imagine the plug will be there and be the same regardless of where that third brake light is located in the tailgate.

The spoiler plugs into the third brake light wire
