Trying to get a 85 to pass smog (large photo)

A good friend of my has a 85 t4r with a 22re, he put in new plugs, wires, cap and rotar and changed the oil and filter. It passed at 25 MPH but not 15. Hes buying a new air filter, pcv valve, and a new O2 sensor but i thought i was help him out and post here since everyone on this site can be help.

Any input at all would help.

A lot of people us denatured alcohol in their gas tank.

I will not go into detail, as I do not care to spread ways to cheat the law, but google can help you out.

Did you check the Ignition timing? Might be advanced a little too far.

That too. Running too hot can also raise NO levels.

This looks very similar to my 84 Toy 4wd years ago when it failed a smog test. I ended up replacing the cat and it passed with flying colors. good luck
