Tundra/5100 lift

I think this is the lift and 265/75r16 cooper ATP's are what I am going to end up doing with my 99. I keep reading that daystar spacers cause problems with sagging and stress on ball joints and there's something about OEM parts that appeal to me.

That being said, anyone that is running this setup or has in the past have any insight as far as ride quality, total price for parts, install difficulty, etc.?

I just want to get some real world reviews before pulling the trigger, and I have no clue where the best place to buy parts for this lift would be, so any help is appreciated!

Thanks for the link, very helpful thread. So basically what I gather from that is the OME is not as good as the TRD Tundra lift for a daily driver and they are both comparably priced when all is said and done.

Check out this thread for install info & parts information -

Speedy's Lift Install

I spent about $850 for parts. I found best prices at Quality Off Road Parts & Accessories Since 1999and Toyota Parts Zone - Lowest Prices for Genuine OEM Parts and Accessory

I used this site for parts diagrams & part numbers - Toyota Parts Cheap - Genuine OEM

If you haven't done it, replace your lower ball joints at the same time. Check your CV boots after the install, they may tear or pull away from their original position - it's not a big deal, just get a fat zip tie and resecure it.

I daily drive mine and the difference is soooooo much better. I carry regular heavy loads inside the truck and tow lighter loads on a regular basis. The rear 906 springs handle great for me. The 5100's do a great job as well. I got exactly 2" of lift.

Yea I just checked out his install video, definitely helpful and that's almost exactly how I want mine to look. With mine being a tall 99, would it almost be like a 1" lift on a non-tall 4runner?

I know that they're adjustable up front with 5100's, but would I be better off going with an 890 rear spring for more lift from where I am right now? I would like to be at least 2" taller than it is now which is 35" on the dot from ground to wheel well at all four corners with stock 265/70's.

Also, would it be possible to use something like the Monroe quick strut pre-assembled coils/shocks for a 2002 tundra 4.7 4x4 instead of 5100's and tundra factory coils?

If I were you, I'd go with the 890s in the back. Stay with the 5100s up front, put the TRD coils on the second notch from bottom. The problem with using a Monroe quick strut is you lose the adjustability, as well as the TRD coil. It is a progressive coil, which will ride a lot better than the coil Monroe's use.
One of the local guys has the 5100 TRD setup and it's really nice. I'll be getting some 5100s in the next month or so to replace the stock Tundra shocks I have now.

Awesome feedback, thanks for all the info . . . looks like it's panning out to be one of those things where I just need to bite the bullet and spend the cash to do it right the first time. I'll start acquiring parts little by little and by summer I will need new tires anyway so I can just do it all at once.

Ya, it's better to spend the money once, rather than cheap out and end up spending the money later anyways.
Let us know when you're ready to install, we get together a few times a year to work on the trucks. I know I've got some work to do, I'm sure some others do as well.

"Buy Nice or Buy Twice." has a better ring to it ;)

The TRD/5100 890/5125 rides/flexes really nice - even unloaded.
Keep an eye on brake lines and sway bar links, they get taxed quickly.

Will do! When is it supposed to stop being awful and miserable in this joint? I moved here from Florida in December and still can't remember what brought me to that terrible decision, I may have had too many margaritas on the beach that day. Anyway, when/if it gets warmer I have a few projects on the corolla and the 4runner I need to do.

I like the sound of that, and I'll probably go with stainless braided nylon coated brake lines from Pirtek whenever I do the lift, had them on my truck after I lowered it and they worked awesome.
