Thanks for the thread reference. I actually stumbled upon that, a TON of information. I've read through it and I'm still hazy on all of it.

It looks like the setup I have is from a 4x4 Double Cab; from what I read, it sounds like it will be too stiff for my 4x4 w/o bumper or winch.

Pbcolt: Did you ever figure out how this setup LOWERED your rig? That just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Nope i never figured it out. I had the 99 tall coils. Before install I was at 36" in the front and after I was at 35.5". It made no sense to me either

And you used the same yellow/red & red/blue from a 2006 TRD? I found this when reading through the Yotatech thread; which was posted in 2004--so the color codes may have been used on all Double Cabs ('04 was their inception)?

'04 DC V8 4x4 TRD Off-Road Pkg. markings:
Top/Bottom=Blue/Red-Pass. side
Top/Bottom=Yellow/Red-Driver side

Interesting; so a net .5" loss for you. Since I have a '96 4x4, I wonder if this would net me a 1" gain since I don't have the '99 talls?

Is my logic here flawed?

However, it may not be worthwhile if they're too harsh.

I don't remember offhand the color code I used. I think it was off an 06 Trd 2wd. It should be in that thread I linked.
 
Hmmm. I'm not positive whether it was 2wd or 4wd Tundra TRD.

Anyways--if I wanted to test these out (i.e. being a complete jong) what else do I need to swap these in? Tundra top cap?

I did the rear suspension last weekend and since I have these, it's worth a shot--if nothing else, verify that anything but the Y/Y and Y/B springs are not ideal. But I guess we'll see.

Any suggestions before I dive in? Or not worth it, since I would have to get aligned?

Yep, you need the tundra isolator. You can get one from Wheelers Off Road. As for testing it out, if you have the funds, go for it. You can drive around with a bad alignment for a day or so, see where you're at, and then make a decision. IMO its more hassle then I would want to deal with, but to each their own.

I dont think the coils are stiff at all. If you got the entire Tundra coilover assembly with the OEM bislstein struts, the struts themeselves are super stiff on 3rd gen's from what ive heard. i put a brand new set of yellow/blue TRD coils with new adjustable 5100 bilsteins and even cranked all the way up it rides fine to me.
 
hey guys...bumping this thread cause it looks like it will here. i need help identifying my shocks, i been searching but cant seem to find anyone else that have came across these set...

the part number on the shock is f4-BE5-6929-HO which are the correct tundra shock. but the color code on the coils are orange and white, and pink and white.

can someone tell me if these will work, i would to slap them on asap...

that is what i was afraid of. but the thing is, i havent seen anyone who ran into these coils so i don know what they came off of..

where is the cheapiest place i can purchase just the coils?

Classifieds. Try reference the Color codes with your local Toyota. The whole set up will work providing you change the top hats to Tacoma/4runner, but the height of the lift is questionable.

If no one has ran across them in your searches then this says you may be the first. Only way to tell is throw them in and see where it sits you. From my searching people that have installed other color combos never get the lift results they want.

It was very hard for me to find them a long time ago so I went with OME 881's, ome sport comfort shocks and 1" lift sleeves. I got 3" lift and no more searching for used parts I could not find. But if you keep trying you will find them.

My backup vehicle is harley and with this weather I don't have room for trial and error. I like to go with wats proven and just slap them in and be happy. Thanks for thee feedback guys it's much appreciated
 
has anyone ever paired the tundra billsteins with another lift coil? i was thinking of trying to use whatever i can to achieve my budget lift

I have a set of Tundra coils with bilsteins for sale in the classifieds right now if you are interested. They are from a 4x4 4 door Tundra, and have a different color code than the popular progressive setup that everyone uses. Basically they are stiffer. That's the only difference. But I already have the 4runner top plates on them, so you could literally just bolt them on.
 
Do you know if I can use Tundra TRD front coil springs from a 2013? I already have the Bilstein 5100s and separately I have the springs, but I haven't tried to do it and the spring looks wider that the current spring. It should still sit on the top mounting place, but probably closer to the outside.

I really could use some help / guidance.
