Turning off seat belt chime on 2012 4Runner

Has anyone successfully done this on a 5th gen 4Runner? I followed these steps and have had no luck.


(1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (note: that's "ON", not "READY", so with the foot OFF the brake pedal).
(2) Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO".
(3) Turn the ignition switch off.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position again.
(5) Press the ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds or as soon as the chimes go off) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more (note: some people swore by waiting for longer, up to 45 secs).
(6) Continue holding down the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the driver side seat belt (note: some folks claim you have to both buckle AND unbuckle)
(7) Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-oFF".
(8) Press the ODO/TRIP switch to change the display to "b-oFF".
(9) Turn the ignition switch off.

(10)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(11)Check that no buzzer sounds

That should have worked- but you forgot one important step. Gotta use the technique described below:

THE TECHNIQUE

As far as I can tell (someone correct me if I'm wrong) we can't turn off the chime at home by some combination of turning the car off an on and holding down the ODO switch or anything else like you can on some of the older 4Runners, FJs, Tacomas, etc. Gotta love the Toyota nannies! My favorive solution is to get some buckles off of ebay that you keep in the consol. Check an old thread of mine for information about them.

Yes. Although it's an annoying minute, all you have to do is wait one minute for the chime to stop, just one minute. I'm not sure why most people don't know this yet.

This is the option I am going with.

I pulled the meter panel from my Tacoma after some LEDs burned out, to replace them, and saw the buzzer on the back of the same PCB. At some point in the near future I will pull the 4runner meter panel and desolder that annoying POS.

It really is too bad that there's not a simple common-sense solution that both removes the chiming and increases your personal safety at the same time. That'd be ideal, I think.

I crank up my stereo for 1 min and I forget about it

Best 35 bucks I have spent.

I have a Crew Max , a Trail Edition and a 2012 Camry and it works on all of them.

I had the dealership turn mine off and do some other custom settings like all windows go down if I hold the unlock button on the key fob.
