There is a large and small antenna plug in the back of the head unit. What are the two of them for, and my new HU only has one, do I need an adapter? Also I noticed another cable in the factory harness with a quick disconnect and a single wire and wondered what that is for? Thanks

I know that 3rd Gens have two radio antennas. When you put a aftermarket radio in you only connect one.

i suspect u have a 4th gen, u only need to use the bigger of the two, also that wire with the disconnect goes to the remote turn on, its the antenna turn on wire, so if u dont hook that up, u wont be gettin any radio signal, also that plug traces back to the stock harness so no need to disconnect anything.

the remote turn on is on the harness itself, so dont unplug that black wire to the small white plug, that is trace back to the main harness, the aftermarket harness u use will have everything on that harness, so just match all the colors of the deck harness to the harness u got and itll all work.
Yes. So plug in what you have that fits. The Scion head unit has a hidden plug you can use for the second antenna lead, but another member discovered that it's just a plug that doesn't connect to anything.PAULUNM said:

Yes, it does say that it is "slightly better with the original head unit." When I made the change I couldn't tell any difference in the quality of reception. But I gained functionality which was well worth the small effort to install the Scion head unit.PAULUNM said:

I wanted to add a visual to the "supplying power to the blue wire" suggestion that is posted on this and other forums.
I installed my Scion 1809 head unit yesterday, and after hours of reasearching the antenna issue- I think I finally understand what needs to be done.
I literally used two wire tap connector, and a piece of extra wire to run between the dark blue (some say I should have used the light blue) wire to the red wire. These two clusters of wire are part of the wiring harness attached to the car that plug into the radio.
If you're a electronics dummy like me, a picture is worth a thousand posts!
