Was that a question? I can't say there isn't a problem with auto. I'm sure the dude selling the rig didn't just make that up and sell it for sure cheap for funsies. I'd like to know what exactly is up with it too. Thanks man! I'm excited for it for sure.

No question there, my humor didn't show through. Since you have the manual plus the route your taking auto is no problem.

Sup.

Omg hey bby ❤️

So, the frequents probably already know, but for those that don't- I'm going manual on this one.
What's the first to go on a manual swap? The auto shifters, duh [emoji41]

I got a trans/t-case from DeathCougar about 3 years ago, and I'm glad to finally be putting it to use- and getting it outta my garage! It came from a '99. I got the trans/j-shift, front drive shaft, clutch master, cluster, rubber AND interior leather boots, and center dash bezel without the ECT button. I'll have to see again when I plug the cluster in, but I think it had between 160 and 180k miles on the parts.
I need to find a rear driveshaft still.
My ECU and wiring harness should be showing up this week, and I'll be able to get the clutch kit, flywheel, and maybe short shifter from Marlin when my '97 sells.

I swear- those damn front driveline bolts were the hardest part of the whole manual swap [emoji38]
Really wasn't bad, just had to use my brain, and have Hop Valley Alpha Centuri handy.
Used two 6" 3/8" extensions to hold the open-end side of the one wrench(on the bolt head), and another wrench on the nut.

And out-

Nothing too crazy or exciting about a manual swap, but I will still be documenting it here! I mean, I'm definitely excited about it, but they're all about the same. I had a '92 4Runner, and my '97 Jetta that I swapped from auto to manual.
ECU, engine/trans harness, and CSC button should be here Thursday [emoji1598]

I just did those front drive line bolts cause my front diff swap.. they were seriously the worst!!!!!

That's where I get it amalik! Do you have them local to you?

I agree that clean is better...although I never manage to get mine as clean as you. I am trying to learn. Do you manage to get the underside of the truck as clean as well? Trying to take a page out of your book before I bolt all my armor back on.

Chim - they really are!
jstim- thanks man. I TRY to paint underneath at least once a year. Appliance epoxy from Home Depot is some tough stuff, so I like that. It's gloss, and I would prefer a satin, but it sure holds up and cleans off well. I just do my best to not paint the bottom of the body itself, as I like to keep everything factory looking. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about anything. I'm no pro, but happy to help!

WTF Toyota?! How am I supposed to put a clutch pedal in there with the VSC/ABS computer in the dang way?!

Got the skinny pedal in. Not that one.

Manual swapped the '01 cluster-

Trying to figure out the best way to get the firewall holes perfect.

Center diff lock. Lol. Don't need that with a j-shift. I can find a good use for this button though-

Also got the beautiful 2003 V6 4WD MT ECU-

I am a little bummed, however, because I was actually excited to swap my whole engine harness, but it showed up pretty damaged.
1fd83fd0a5dff0c3d811fad460924d5a.jpg

Every single wire retainer was broken. I understand- some can't be removed without breaking. However, the large wiring troughs are actually super easy to remove without breaking, but they destroyed all three. He also assured me no wires would be cut- I guess I needed to verify that included not being RIPPED out as well.
Igniter wire can be repaired-
dfb24e37ca5d1cc0ee533eee9f61ed6b.jpg

But two other connectors were completely ripped out and missing-

So that sucks a little. I know I can salvage the manual trans plugs and use them, but that's not what I bought a whole engine harness for.
Does anyone reading this know if the Tacoma's all have VSS?! I assumed they used the ABS sensors for speedo, but I swear there is a VSS plug on the end of this trans harness.
Maybe I'll go through the work of taking my whole harness out, swapping over all the wiring retainers over to the "new" harness, and splicing in the ripped out connectors with parts from my auto harness. That isn't what I thought I was going to have to do when I purchased a whole engine harness, but it just might be worth it to me. I'm a little crazy.

Where did you buy from? If you paid with Paypal or it's through eBay I'd try and make a claim. You paid for non broken stuff and received broken stuff...

I bought from Davis Auto Parts in TN. I shot him an email this evening, so we'll see what he says tomorrow. I did pay for unbroken parts, and I did receive broken parts. THAT SAID, I bout the ECU for only $100, and paid $300 shipped for the clutch start button(with pigtail), engine/trans harness, and ECU. I couldn't even find one of these ECU's on eBay, but the ended auctions I found were between $350-600. $1,600 brand new.
What I'm getting at- for what I paid, I'm not too unhappy with what I have to work with. If he decides to "take care of me"- awesome. If he decides to give me the finger, I'll still be happy, and ask "how much for that VSS?" [emoji23]

Hope he isn't reading this; the finger route would really save him money and hassle [emoji38]

This VSC is everywhere, and on an insane level [emoji23]

VSC/ABS computer is as big as the engine ECU *♂️
Where is the clutch pedal supposed to go, Toyota?!

Haha

Guys.
We're getting places.

This was a big pain, but my buddy recommended I do it this way(he regretted NOT doing it this way), and it was worth it.
7d5d6dbcfc05d96669c0cb3440fb76b2.jpg

Drilled out the 4 spot welds, and pounded the shouldered studs out. There is a top support bolt on the pedal bracket, so you can use that to line the bracket up. Once set where you want, you can mark a hole or so. The bottom hole is the only one I felt confident in marking. I'll be getting a clutch MC gasket from the dealer to ensure perfect hole placement.
If you haven't followed my '97, you may not know, but I am a perfectionist. Can't wait to nail these holes [emoji1598]

PS,
Whoever said '01/02 are drive/throttle by wire are sorely mistaken. The pedal has zero electronics; only a cable attached. There is a motor on the back of the TB, but that has to be only for cruise control.

'01/'02 are NOT drive by wire.

Those prices are very good! I've never used my Clutch Cancel switch ever in 17 years of owner ship. :becky: Whats it for again? LOL

They are drive by wire. That cable is a fail safe of sorts in case the drive by wire system goes out, it allows you to open the butterfly valve a little bit so you can limp home.

Nice to know, that was my biggest concern with taking mine into the Mexico desert, what if the clutch system dies. I had a Cherokee which lost the master cylinder or something. I had to drive it around town without a clutch. Downtown traffic. :fun:
