UCA Replacment Question

Hey guys,
I have Bilstein 6112 on my truck currently set at 2 inch. Clip 3 from the bottom. 5160 Bilstein, AirLift and stock springs on rear. I now want to step up to 285/70/17 tire.

So, what I want to do is move clip up one. Which should be about 2.5 lift now in front and add something in rear. Maybe 1.5 spacer. I was going to lift front and get alignment again.

My question to you is. If I cant get it within spec, can I add UCA later if needed without removing shock and coil again? If not, I will just wait and do both at same time.

And yes, I look up most things and do find on google. But couldn't really find anything definite on UCA how to and the Gen5 4Runner.

Thanks in advance

I am about 90% sure that you can. I believe you could just jack the front end up and unbolt the UCA from the spindle. The shock/strut (coilover) assembly is bolted to the shock tower and lower control arm, so it wouldn't be in any danger of coming out.

Probably want to place a jack under the LCA while you remove the UCA so that you can let the suspension expand in a controlled manner once the UCA is unbolted.

All of that said, I've never actually done it, so...grain of salt and all that.

EDIT: Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbsTJgb6S_c Just follow the steps shown here.

Installing UCA is probably one of the easiest things you can do with your front suspension.

1) Jack up the rig
2) Place a box, jack stand or jack to hold up the LCA. Unbolt the ABS sensor from stock UCA.
3) Unbolt the steering knuckle bolt and pound off the UCA.
4) Use some muscle and unbolt the UCA. The long bolt will slide right out by the battery. Passenger side you will need to move the hard AC line out of the way so the bolt can slide through.
5) Install new UCA, apply liberal amounts of grease on bushings. Hand tighten the nuts. Reinstall the steering knuckle(most aftermarket UCAs come with a nylock asking for 45ft/lbs). Bolt ABS sensor back onto UCA. Put wheels back on.
6) Drop rig on ground. Unbolt hard brake lines(push out of the way so you can torque the nuts). Tighten up the UCA nut and torque it to 85ft/lbs.

Should be done within 45-60 mins. Have a helping hand when it comes to removing the UCA long bolt and re-installation of the UCA. Easy peasy.
