Ultragaguge MX reads transmission temperature!

Glad to report my Ultragauge (UG) MX 1.3, right out of the box would read my 2007 4Runner Limited V8 tranny temp. It was programmed by UG for the "Tundra/Tacoma" option at checkout.

I believe it can read tranny temps on any 2005+ 4Runner, as all such vehicles use CAN.

I have read that it will also work on older 4th gen as well as some 3rd gen 4Runners but in both instances the user will need to program the "M gauge" feature and input specific data (which can be found by searching this and other Toyota forums)

Overall, the MX version adds approx. 8 gauges straight from the factory. I believe owners of older UG units can upgrade to the MX version for add'l cost in certain circumstances (see UG website).

I hope this helps clarify what the UG is capable of. It's a great little product.

Nice... a good bit cheaper than the ScanGauge as well. Being lazy and not wanting to research too much into it, are there any features the UltraGauge can't do that the ScanGauge can do that makes it not worth the cheaper price?

UG says it's MX version can do everything ScanGauge can do. At a lower price, up to 8 viewable gauges at once, and now with all the SG readouts, UG was the clear winner to me.

You want Tacoma/Tundra CAN. I don't have a pic, but I bought one of the 3M mounts from UG and mounted mine just above the interior lights dimming roller switch...in between the AC vent and the tach gauge. I feel like I had to trim the sticky mount a bit to get it to fit, but I don't 100% recall. The steering wheel blocks my view of the UG just a bit, so I lean over somewhat to view it. Not a big deal. I didn't want to mount on the dash or windshield for theft or overheating issues. I ran the wiring behind the trim everywhere except for a few inches where it comes out of the trim and into the UG. I now have an 04 Runner (sold the 07) and I can't read the tranny temp since its not CAN protocol :/

Not possible on the 04. It runs an older non-CAN protocol. Unfortunately.

Your 2006 should provide the data. I can get at it on my 06 SE V* with the ScanguageII after a bit pr trial and error programming. You should also be able to get at the Tire Pressure as well.

I'm such a newby, it was there the whole Damn time! What screwed me up was the labeling. It's labeled "Trn", I was looking for "Tft", my bad! Thanks again for the help!

Does anyone know if the newer UG codes will work on 06+ models to show trans pan temp and torque converter temp or are we stuck with the generic "trans temp" reading and torque converter lockup on/off reading? I have the latter 2 set up on my new UG MX 1.4 but would like both the temps if possible.

FWIW it does work with scan gauge2.. Happily use mine for that exact purpose towing.
