Looks clean and nice even if it is a 4th gen.
Thanks, the look grows on you. I think the sports and limiteds look much better than the SR5 though. With some bigger tires it'll be more than capable to get me to the mall and grocery store and back
Thanks! Not a whole lot planned, mostly plan to make it an OEM+ type thing that's comfortable on pavement, and still capable enough for forest service roads. A few upgrades here and there like tint, Bluetooth, backup camera, weather techs, etc. It'll get new bigger, and more aggressive tires once I put a few more miles on these tires. They've got a decent bit of tread left, but some of them are 8-9 years old already.
I'm thinking either a plus one in 265, or maybe a skinnier taller 32" tire in a 255 width. Nothing crazy heavy though like my ST Maxxs. They are great tires, great grip, and they wear fantastic. I've got 63k on mine and they've still got a ton of life left.
I may do sliders at some point, if I find a good deal but that's the extent of my plans for it, for now...

In the last couple months, both 4Runners got a full detail. Wash, clay bar, corrected some of the paint of the 4th Gen, and waxed both.

The 4th Gen got tinted and new bigger tires (265/65/18 in Cooper AT3 4S), and a Rexing V1 Dash Cam installed. Looks much better.

The Dash Cam in the 4th gen is powered through a Dongar adapter which pulls power from the auto dimming rear view mirror. My 3rd gen came with an auto dimming mirror from the factory, and has the same style connector. Their website doesn't call out anything older than 2003, but I don't see why it wouldn't work at least on my 3rd gen. If I ever have issues with the power cable for that dash cam I will be buying another one of these adapters. It doesn't get easier.
The 4th Gen is going to get a new head unit, backup camera, and weather techs. That is probably all it will see in the way of mods for the most part. I love the way it drives and cruises, makes the 3rd gen seem like an antique.
The 3rd gen has a pile of OEM light bulbs sitting in the garage. Didn't want to deal with the LED hotspot stuff. There are more burnt out than working in the center stack right now... Also dropped the PSI in the ST Maxx to 35 in hopes of making the ride better, and counteracting a little bit of center wear they seem to be showing. For 63k+ miles they are holding up fantastic though. I could probably get 80-90k miles out of these 5 tires, if I keep them that long.

Thanks! I think the facelift 4th gens have a much more modern look with the updated grill and headlights. I like them better than the prefacelift 5th gens, personally.

I have been having similar thoughts on adding a slightly newer vehicle into my life. I have been weighing all my options out there. I've been looking at 4th gens, Lexus 460/460s, Tacos, and LCs.
TBH, I've gotten a little burned out for my second build after my rollover. I STILL haven't tubbed the front for the 35s. I'm considering dropping back down to 285/75/16s. So the attractiveness of having a newer ride with less needling maintenance is sounding better and better. I too would be looking to not go as full on as my current 3rd gen. We'll see.

Thanks for the compliments. I highly recommend a daily of some sort, makes these modified 3rd gens a lot more fun when you do drive it, rather than having to drive it or work on it hastily.

Finally got around to replacing all the burnt out dash lights. I just used OEM parts, no worrying about finding the right bulbs, color, eliminating hot spots, etc. Keeping it simple has it's place with some things. It's nice having everything all lit up again. I believe some of these like the window and hazard buttons have never worked since I've owned this thing though.

Did a little maintenance this weekend. New PCV Valve and Grommet. That stupid grommet always gets so dry and hard so fast. Tightened up the valve cover bolts I could get to, and cleaned the throttle body and MAF. Still need to grease the driveshaft, flush the brake fluid, check the brakes all around, oil change, tire rotation, and then take it in for an alignment and tire balance.
Also thinking about changing up my light setup. The lights I have on the A pillar have yellowed greatly on the lenses over the last 6+ years. And I've never really been too impressed with the Rigids I put on the bumper honestly. The spots are bluer than I'd like, and the ambers don't throw light very far.
I'm considering getting some ARB intensity knockoffs, clones, fakes, whatever you want to call them. $200 for a set is reasonable, $700 a light isn't... These specifically are the ones I have my eyes on right now. I'd put these on the bumper. The only thing I don't know about is if the mounts on the Addicted Offroad bumper would be strong enough since these are a lot bigger, and the brackets are larger with three mounting holes. I would think it would be OK, the tabs on the bumper are pretty stout.

For the ditch light brackets I'm thinking about getting some Baja Design Squadron Sports in Amber. Then point them more outward to actually use as ditch lights instead of spot lights like the ones I have right now.

I also need to get new reverse lights for up on the roof rack. The cheap ones I put up there years ago don't work anymore. I'm tempted to get another set of cheap ones for $20. Also considering getting amber or some sort of colored ones for back there so it isn't as abrasive when you use them as camp lights to set up tents, etc.
I'm open to thoughts or suggestions on all of these as well.

How's the light output on them?
Also, could you measure from the center mounting stud to the furtherst back point? They don't have that exact measurment on their listing, but I'm a little concerned they'll be too deep and I won't be able to mount them because they'll hit my winch. Thanks!

I'll try to get the measurements sometime this week, but we have been super busy. Also, I think the bracket has actually changed since I got mine. The light looks the same, but the bracket looks a bit more robust on the newer ones.

Amazon stock of the black ones was getting low this weekend, so I went ahead and snagged the last two in black. I figured with free returns if they don't work out worst case I am out a trip to Kohl's to send them back. So don't worry about the measurements anymore.
Are yours mounted with all three mounting holes in the bracket, or did you only use the center one? I assume most only use the center one, which is all I have available on my bumper as well.

So, my bumper has a TON of access to the outer shell from inside via the opening for the winch - this is actually one of my favorite features of the [MENTION=444815]LFD_Off_Road[/MENTION] bumpers, and why I chose them over all others.
So, I ended up using all 3 bolts. I just measured, measured again, measured one more time, drilled into my bumper, painted the holes to ensure they don't rust, and installed the lights. I figured with 3 bolts, I would be minimizing the amount of shake on washboard roads... Looks like I was right. :thumb:
...that was like 3 years ago now (right after my trip to Moab), and they haven't been removed since then.

Ideally for the rear I'd like a true amber (not yellow) for camp set-up and a warm white for reverse. Right now I have two white floods that are too bright with orange covers. Meh.
In the front I have a set of Rigid ambers that I adore for dust and/or to fill in what the headlights don't light, but can't justify that cost on the butt at this point. And that's my 2 cents.

Gotcha. Mine will be mounted on tabs on the bumper so I can't drill the extra holes. I could try and line up the round pipe mounts I currently have with one of the two outside holes possibly for more stability. Once the lights get here I'll get to play with them some and see if they'll work out.
I'm thinking amber in the back would be the way to go also. I don't have separate wiring harnesses for the lights in the back so the camp and reverse lights will be the same color. The amber will be better for camp setup, and should still be plenty for making sure I don't back into a tree in the woods. Oddly enough I'm not the biggest fan of the amber rigids I have up front. If I do end up switching up my lights up there I'll have a set of amber rigids for sale soon

Lots of purchases the last few weeks.
So far the only thing I've installed is the Primelux lights. They still need the security hardware, and I need to put some rubber on the top crossbar of the winch. The lights barely fit, by a couple millimeters. But they look good I think, and they are crazy bright. They pull a pretty good bit of power for LEDs though, so they are actually wired to separate switches. One is on the factory fog switch on the stalk so it's super easy to turn on and off, and the other is on one of the switches I had added to a previous blank to the left of the steering wheel. The Baja lights are waiting on a weatherpack crimper tool to show up. I still need to figure out a replacement set of lights for the rear of the truck too.

The new rear struts are coming because the regular strength strongarm ones can't keep up with the ladder on the back. I'm hoping these will do better, and even if they give out after a couple years I can get them warrantied for $10 shipping.
I decided to try a new set of Depo headlights since I got them for under $100. My original ones are starting to peel inside and the chrome isn't as reflective as it should be after 20+ years and a trip to the moon and some of the way back. I'm hoping the pattern is good on these. If it's not I may go for a retrofit, maybe. I do like how simple and easy the stock headlights are though...

The cheap ebay LEDs I put in the dome lights have been giving me problems for the last few years. Finally ordered some new ones from superbrightleds.
I also bought that door checker repair kit that [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION] and [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] have mentioned before. Shipping was crazy fast from Russia, it took like a week or maybe just slightly longer. While I have the door panels off I'm going to put new 6.5" speakers in the back doors since I never replaced them when I did the rest of the sound system. I'll also be adding some sound deadening. The 6.5" Kickers were the shallowest 6.5" I could find that matched up well with the specs on my amp. Hopefully they sound good with the JL components I have up front. The JBL system in the 4th gen with the factory subwoofer and numerous extra speakers makes me want more when I drive the 3rd gen.
The silblade wipers on the 3rd gen are finally starting to show some wear. Considering they've been on there for 7 years now I would say that is a pretty good lifespan for wipers. A new set of the same exact ones is on the way.
I also did some maintenance the last couple weeks the both 4Runners. The 3rd gen got the driveline greased, and the 4th gen got the original plugs replaced, a new PCV, driveline grease, throttle body cleaning, and MAF cleaning. Also put some better bulbs in the 4th gen. Phillips xtreme vision if I recall correctly. I love the projectors in there. New bulb is on the left in the picture.

I think the front pads on the 3rd gen probably need to be replaced soon, so I have another set of Akebono pads sitting here next to me. I'll take a look at them when I rotate tires this week. Unfortunately back in 2018 when I had my TBU Napa calipers seize they wore the pads unevenly and took a good bit of life out of one of the pads, otherwise I probably could have got 200k out of the pads. I'm pretty sure these pads have 120k+ miles on them at this point.

So far the only thing I've installed is the Primelux lights. They still need the security hardware, and I need to put some rubber on the top crossbar of the winch. The lights barely fit, by a couple millimeters. But they look good I think, and they are crazy bright. They pull a pretty good bit of power for LEDs though, so they are actually wired to separate switches. One is on the factory fog switch on the stalk so it's super easy to turn on and off, and the other is on one of the switches I had added to a previous blank to the left of the steering wheel. The Baja lights are waiting on a weatherpack crimper tool to show up. I still need to figure out a replacement set of lights for the rear of the truck too.

I'm hoping these will do better, and even if they give out after a couple years I can get them warrantied for $10 shipping.
I decided to try a new set of Depo headlights since I got them for under $100. My original ones are starting to peel inside and the chrome isn't as reflective as it should be after 20+ years and a trip to the moon and some of the way back. I'm hoping the pattern is good on these. If it's not I may go for a retrofit, maybe. I do like how simple and easy the stock headlights are though...

I also bought that door checker repair kit that [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION] and [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] have mentioned before. Shipping was crazy fast from Russia, it took like a week or maybe just slightly longer. While I have the door panels off I'm going to put new 6.5" speakers in the back doors since I never replaced them when I did the rest of the sound system. I'll also be adding some sound deadening. Well, you're going to be busy! I'll be watching to see how those little amber guys do for you.
If it helps...I installed the 6815s in 2016. They're not quite as zippy as they were initially, but they were a danger to my chin back then. Unlatch hatch and step back. Now I have to open the hatch the first foot before they do the rest. No ladder on mine, it might be good to have in this case.

Yeah I'm excited to see how these lights look compared to the rigids. Just waiting on a special crimper to show up from Amazon so I can change the plugs on the wiring harness without having to run an all new harness.
I've heard the same thing about the 6815s weakening after a few years from other members. Sucks that they don't really last, but if I have to replace them every few years that's fine. Lift Supports Depot is where I got them, and they will honor the lifetime warranty so long as you pay the $10 return shipping. So that's not a terrible option.
