update microSD navigation maps

The thing that bothers me is, mine was built this past month, just arrived, and looking at the maps, realizing they're out of date; we've had a lot of road construction around here over the past few years, that's not showing up.

As a former dealer tech, the only time would really recommend updating your maps would be after major road construction/changes in your area. Other than that the updates are typically just adding more POIs and business data and those change faster than the roads do most of the time.

When I tried to get a new DVD update for my mom's 2010 Venza the employee price on them was only about $10 less than retail. Where or whoever Toyota is getting the map service and updates from are the ones jacking the price up unfortunately. Even the HDD Nav update flash drives were $150+ plus labor to install it.

To Locate what you have map wise on the 2014 4R TE Entune system here is the following.
1st) shows the full radio, Lower right corner shows the Micro SD card location.
2nd) Go to the Navigation screen.
3rd) Upper Left corner has an option button, select it.
4th) on the 2nd screen the bottom selection is Map Data, Select it.
5th) on the 3rd screen shows what verison of map data you have.

6th (my area :hello: ) and 7th pic shows misc info about the maps.

So for the question on where is the MicroSD card, it is behind the little cover panel marked MicroSD.

For the question of what Map Version your or i have follow the list to the 3rd screen.

Hope this answers some questions.

Good post.

Just to add thread data for future reference, based on comparing your map info, mine and a new 2016 TEP, I believe there are quarterly map versions for each quarter just like on other Navteq maps. (Makes sense, no major revelation here, just adding to the knowledge base.)

My 2014 TEP (purchased in March 2014) map data page info shows:
05-33-12 .... 2013-09-2
2013-2014 Ver.1a

and yours (guessing a couple of months newer)
05-33-13 .... 2013-12-3
2013-2014 Ver.1b

~~~~~~~~
New 2016 TEP @ dealer today.
05-35-51 .... 2015-05-1
2015-2016 Ver.1
Yours matches what was in the 2016 TEP I saw on the showroom floor this morning.
I did notice the coverage maps for the "detailed coverage" has expanded in some areas now as compared to mine. You can see the coverage maps in the map info section or as BMP files in the \HD0\BMP directory of the card.
Unlike Garmin devices, etc., the vehicle NAV systems have a watered down Navteq database and only have "detailed" coverage in "some" population centers, not like Garmin. Makes you wonder what they left out to add the extra coverage.
Where did you got the update and how did you do it?
All I can find online is the "CD update" not a microSD update.
I couldn't find the MicroSD slot either on my 2013 Ltd. Did you ever find out where or how to update the Navigation for yours? I want to update my maps, but don't know how. Thanks
Is it possible to use MicroSD to load GPX file to the navigation system? I haven't look into this for me truck, but spend whole morning getting google map direction convert to GPX data file for my Garmin BMW Navigation V.
Can we load direction to it?
I just did a quick google search for microsd Navigation Update Toyota and got loads of options available for sale. No more than $40 from what I have sen in branded micro sd's with toyota.
Detailed Coverage Area?
So, the "Detailed Coverage Area" is what's on the SD card? I just bought my 2016 and if that's the case, it's showing that I have coverage in almost every major city and state.
My 16GB was slightly smaller than the original and failed to take the image so I had to use a 64GB I had laying around. I was able to put the image on it. On the computer the copy looks fine, same folder/file structure. It looks like the radio detects it however the map is black. I'm going to try with some other cards. I have a few more 16GB and a 32GB somewhere.
I wonder if the Toyota cards have a unique serial or model number on the card that the radio checks.
Took Delivery of New '16 TE - No microSD Card - No Functioning Nav System
I took delivery late 9/24/16 of a new '16 TE. The GM and salesperson had to do a dealer trade at 7PM and I accepted delivery that evening without fully determining full Entune System function (please, be gentle - I knew better).
I am returning to the dealership today for a microSD card replacement. What should I look for to ensure I receive the most up-to-date map version?
Is the map data specific or limited to details within a defined geographic location or is it a broad series of data useful in a large geographic area? (I live in the Southeast - Virg, NC, SC, GA, TN, AL,etc.)
Any suggestions what to specifically request from the dealer to correct this oversite?
PS - Called Toyota support (800) 331-4331 this morning. Was informed the next map version will be released Nov. 2016 (no specific date given; current version was released Nov. 2015) After reading some of the posts above I am learning this may not be the most accurate description of the truth regarding version updates... lessening my confidence in any advise I am receiving from Toyota)
Thanks!
