Hi team,

I'll be installing these leds today:

I wanted to repost this 'pictorial essay' which I felt had benefit, but accidently got deleted along with another thread that I took down... hope I can remember what I said in that post... :noidea:

To begin, insert a small (electronics type) flat-head screwdriver here as shown in the photo below; remember that patience is your very best friend so 'take your time':

I'm deliberately targeting the lens at it's hinged anchors (there are two). Once they let go, nothing else holds it in place!

AND HERE ARE THOSE HINGES; "just for your reference"

What bulb did you use for the back seat, above head? You want the light color(s) to match on the interior.

Hi Cobalt,

I haven't replaced the dome light bulb as of yet. The reason that I changed the 'map-lights' was simply because they were incapable of providing light adequate enough to read a map; or anything else for that matter! I do like that white light color that these 'Philips 194 led' bulbs dish out... just not sure if I want to change the second row 'Soft lighting' atmosphere/privacy at this point... guess time will tell!

I believe the doors and map light are 194. The dome and cargo area are 3022. No idea on the backup lights.

I installed an LED in the back seat of the 4Runner but it was dimmer than the factory light so I returned it. I wasnt fond of the front and rear light sources not being a color match. It looked like an accident. Now if they were colored, that would be different. Your point is however well taken. I installed all blue lights inside of my Maxima for privacy & mood. The exterior paint color was cobalt blue as well. #Uniformity #Cohesive #Custom

P.S. I need to find out what the Phillips equivalent LED is for the backseat for future reference.

When you say, 'Backseat', are you referring to the 'Dome-light' on the headliner or a different lamp?

I personally just put in an order through SuperBrightLEDs for all interior and exterior (side mirrors, reverse and license plate) lights. It was an easy one stop shop. Cost $163.00, but everything is color matched and uniform. Cant wait to do the swap.

haha...I bought the premium lights. I hope they work ok. I have used their lights in my Titan without any issue for 3 years. We will see how these work.

Center light is different, it takes a 3175 Festoon - 30mm bulb

Also, the Philips is a different temp. If the 194 bulbs are 6000k, the 3022 bulbs are 6500k+. It's noticeably more purple.

I'm very disappointed with the end result, other than the map lights.

Phillips doesn't list lm output......not sure why, but this is what they list for specs X-tremeVision LED LED car light 129416000KX1 | Philips

Output (compared to link I provided) should produce a brighter light since its not defused. Color should be the same since it's rated at 6000K.

This thread was a great help in doing my own interior LED conversion!
However, I found that the Philips 30mm Festoon listed here was actually DIMMER than the 2 year old factory bulb!
In place of that I'd suggest this JDM ASTAR DE3175. It is a little over-sized because it's a 31mm instead of 30mm, but a small bend of the flexible retainer and it fits and holds fine. For ease of install, bend the retaining clip before you try and shove the bulb in there. Because both the dome and liftgate lights lack a reflector behind the bulb, this should work better with all 6 LED's on the same side.
After having issued with the dome light I also ordered a couple of JDM ASTAR 194's to test. They are much brighter than the Philips 194's. While they are an exposed circuit board, the bulbs are housed very well anyway. Hence I returned all of the Philips LEDs and used the JDM ASTARs to do the whole truck. I forgot about the puddle lights and have to go back and do them now, but here's how it looked getting into the truck last night.

For the 2011 4runner you don't have to take off all that plastic for the side mirrors. All you have to do is remove the glass and unscrew two screws that hold the light. The light simply pops out. I'm not 100% sure, but I think my interior car lights dim down for a couple of seconds before turning off rather than turning off instantly; led's don't like potentiometers. You may want to consider turning this feature off if that's a dealer serviceable option.
