URD Spec-U Exhaust

Nice! How about a few sound clips? Can't wait for the dyno results with the exhaust

I have some camera phone vids. Will see what I can do. As I mentioned earlier in this thread this system on the 4Runner sounds no different than the Tacoma in the links I provided earlier. If anything the sound clips are deceivingly quiet. The system is much deeper and louder in person.

That and post install dyno.. good stuff!

Hope no low end torque was given up.. noticed in my previous G37 there was a point where going too high of a flowing exhaust sacrificed a bit of the lower end for high end HP gains. Sub'd to see how it goes!

Oh and is the droning situation getting any better with the break in? Or still as bad from day 1?

I'm positive there is a gain in low end torque. URD did their homework. But we will see on the Dyno.

Just installed this today. I doubt ithe drone will improve.

I know its not comparing apples to apples, but the G37 I mentioned droned soooo bad the day I drove it back from the shop, literally had a headache when I got home.. But after a week or two, it went from almost un-driveable to minor drone at a certain rev range.. Although that was a full catback w/carbon fiber mufflers & high flow cats setup. Hopefully yours will improve too with some break-in time...

Here are some clips. I recommend you folks put on a set of your best headphones or sit at a computer with a subwoofer. Still doesn't come close to the real thing.

Again, this is a pretty loud exhaust system. It sounds quiet in the videos which can be very deceiving. Not for the old futs out there.

Will post another at start up and idle tomorrow.

Formidable ,
Seems to increase response from looking at the front end rise upon initial WOT.
Also, Seems to get to the shift point nicely and what sounds like a 5500+ RPM target.

The initial response was surprising. The exhaust piping is up sized to 3"... Which I would expect to lose low end. It has to be due to the equal length y pipe. Gadget came through with the R&D on this one. Worth every penny.

Getting the Dyno just to confirm what I already know. Unlike the run of the mill CAI or cat back exhaust, there is no question whether or not there are gains with this system. The question is how much. It's noticeable all over the rpm range.

For the off-roaders out there... Look at the additional clearance you get with this y pipe. You can probably ask gadget to develop a side exit or a tuck/dump after the rear axle to increase your rear clearance.

You are right. The exhaust is becoming quieter on a daily basis...

For those interested, the Dyno is scheduled for Saturday. I found a Dyno for the competition y pipe, (again, this is a little different from the equal length), on a 4th gen. Scroll down to Lucario's run post edit. The only thing he changed in this run is the y pipe. His gains are significant and at the end of the curve. Don't focus on max hp and tq numbers as those remain relatively unchanged. Look at the difference in hp and tq numbers at the end of the curve as pictured below... Looks to be in the neighborhood of a whopping 28 rwhp and 26 rwtq. Which explains why I can feel a difference on the butt Dyno.

I'm considering the Y pipe for myself.

For those wondering, the rear cats are only there for startup....

Can someone who has the y-pipe answer this. Does it route any higher than the stock crossover for clearance.

The stock setup is such a POS. I have been wanting to do a custom Y since day 1.

Read through this thread and please start at the first page. I have posted pics all throughout. Your answer is in the first two pics comparing the stock y and URD. Just look at the frame for reference. You get WAY more clearance with this y pipe.
I should have been more specific. I'm talking about the competition Y, not the equal length....

Honestly since I don't have a skid that comes all the way back to the transfer case I'm sure it could/would still be vulnerable to hits !! Is area of concern but currently not doing any heavy duty 4x4 ing.

Ceramic coated the y pipe at performance coatings. They did a very nice job. Perfectly coated inside and out. Nothing was missed. The finish is grey ice.

Nice! I had them do my exhaust manifold on my evo back in the day. They do quality work. Only problem I had is they called me and said it was ready to pick up... Drove my ass there from Everett and they said to come back the next day... :censored:

Thanks, no need for a pic, was just curious if it helped with clearance between aftermarket TCase skid and crossover pipe.

It's no where near the aftermarket TCase skid as its higher than the bottom of the frame. It's the same height as the passenger side exhaust leg on the factory Y pipe. I bought mine for the extra clearance and I am surprised at how much it added. In the future I will modify my TCase skid to sit higher since now it hangs low for no real reason.
