USB Port

I really dislike the the USB port placement in the glovebox. It's an inconvenient location, it's hard to get to and it's a hassle to use with my iPhone. I've instead used it for my iPod, which I leave plugged in and in the glovebox all the time. I will say that music from the iPod plays better and I have no issues with album art with the iPod like I have with bluetoothing music from my iPhone. Plus, there are more options for playlists, shuffle, etc with the iPod.

So this left me with the need for another USB port to charge my iPhone, wife's iPad, etc on road trips. I have read on here how some of you talented fellas have installed a USB port in the aux line below the AC unit. Unfortunately for me, I'm not that adept at modifications, so I looked for an easy way out. And lucky for me, I found it.

I bought a simple USB adapter that would plug into the 12V outlet right next to the aux plug. It is very small compared to most I've seen and actually fits almost flush into the outlet. Plus, being black, it fits in nicely with the color scheme. I removed the cover from the 12V and plugged the adapter in and it actually looks somewhat like a professional installation. It came with a black USB cable and it works great...and the door can be folded down when not in use.

On my '13 LE I have an usb input on top of the aux input. It might be a newer model thing. Or maybe because I have entune?

Anyhow, I also have a similar usb port for my cigarette lighter too but it is a double port. So now I have 3 ports in that vicinity. The portion for my cigarette lighter looks like this:

This one shows like it has a 2.1amp port and a 1 amp port. I think you can get ones with both ports that both have 2 amps so your devices can charge faster. Just a suggestion.
 
I have the Belkin adapter but it has 2 USBs to charge stuff. Have one in each car. To bad they don't make it anymore. It is really nice to be able to leave it in and close the door. But I like the USB port to the radio in the glove box, that way I can keep my iPod hidden in there.

Did you have to break the folding cover off? I have the same plug and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the cover off without breaking it..

same here, using this, however... USB Car Charger | reVOLT c2 Dual USB Charger | reVOLT c2 | by Scosche two true 10W USB ports for fast charging iPhones (regular charge iPad)... low profile (hatch door closes)...

there are little plastic holding pins/tabs holding it in place. just give it a little more oomph.
 
2013 sr5

I've got a 2013 and only have the USB in the center stack. I want it in the glove box as well. Is there a splitter to get it to both spots?

I would love to have a USB in my glove box instead of the center of the dash. What would be perfect is moving my current connection to the glove box and then making a "charge only" connection out of the one on my dash. I just don't relish the amount of work required to get behind all that stuff.

I think I recall seeing a fully functioning USB in the center console (arm rest) of a 2013 LE during a test drive. It would be nice to have one in there too!
 
USB in Glovebox

I took my 2013 4Runner to International Auto Radio in North Hollywood and they swapped the spots for me. It looks awesome! Like if it was from the factory. They put the plate that was in the glove box over the spot in the center console and now the USB port is in the glove box. No wires showing. No hassle playing my music. And if I ever need to, I can still Bluetooth music from my iPhone and use a USB Cigarette Lighter adapter to charge the phone with out interrupting the radio. I would HATE that. I'm listening to Stern and then plug in the phone into the USB to charge it and the SOURCE changes to phone.
