V-Leds Type2 Dual color Bulbs

aawww man....wish they had such an option for my 2006.....

speaking of options.....what can us 2006 users do for an increase in brightness from the blinker/DRLs ?

I think you can do the same thing. I'm not sure if the bulbs/LED is the same, but if not I'm sure they make one that will work with the '06+ light housings.

I had to do the whole DRL mod to my SR5 as well as the Automatic lights once that was done yes I had DRL's without having to modify any of my font end wiring. If you have a 4Runner with DRL's already (3 wires vs 2 going into the housing) then you are in like flynn. No further modification required, plug and play!

I did not have that so had to pull power from the parking lamps. Easy peasy lemon squeezy......... Still looks good and running strong.

I would think that would depend on how anal your 5-0 is. If you live in a state that has no money(i.e. CA), and tickets everyone for anything, cause the state needs money, then yes.
 
Anyone tried it with Factory DRL??? does it works?? White on DRL and Amber on Turn Signal??

I have 2005 Limited w/ factory DRL.

IF you have the 3 wire system (mine is only two and thus the need for the mod) then it is plug and play. It was designed for that.

I get many compliments......

it's 3 prongs connector, but only 2 wires for factory DRL. You mod yours to use 3 wires.

i just want to know if anyone with factory DRL tried it yet. i don't want spend $60and finds out it doesn't works.
 
I did mod mine. I did the factory mod to give me DRLs first then performed this mod to make work. It doesn't get power to the white side until you turn ON your parking lights. See if you have 12 volts on the 3rd wire when you turn on your lights and if you lose it when you turn it off. if so, it is plug and play
otherwise you may have to do the mod the way I did it. Happy to help where I can

I tried installing these this evening and ran into a bit of a problem... they didn't fit. I removed the original Sylvia bulb and put in the V-LEDS but it isn't snug. When I put the socket back in the bulb fell out into the housing - it was fun fishing it out. Did anyone else have a problem with the fit?

These are the ones that were ordered:

Did I get the wrong ones? I believe thats the same link as earlier in this thread. I have an '05 Sport w/ DRL.
 
I'll have to confirm in the morning but based on your pictures, yes the base is the same.

Blew a fuse when I had it in backwards... that way was also real loose.

Got to be honest, I misread the original post and thought these would always be white unless it was the turn signal. I was bummed when I saw they were still amber DRL - and then I couldn't get them to fit. My fault for not fully reading the post (or taking a good look at the pics) - I was blinded by the fact they went white.
 
While using the DRL's only it will be amber. When you turn on the parking lights it will switch to white and then turn amber when you use the turn signals. At least that is how it works on my 2005. Let me know if I can be of any additional assistance.

So it would appear that we have a different bulbs... One of the first posts said to use the 7443/ 7443NA bulb which is for turn signals, the V-LEDS link which was provided is in sync with that.

I checked out the Sylvania fitment guide for an '05 with DRL and it says we should be using the 4157 bulb for front turn signals/ DRL. 7443 is listed as our rear turn signal.

I'll attached a few pics in a bit but I think that is the cause of the fit problem - I have the wrong bulb. I believe these are the ones I'm after.

Question

Been following this mod for a while now and I've seen a couple of questions remain unanswered.

1) If you have DRL's but only have 2 wires running to the base of the plug does this mean you have to do a wiring mod? I'm guessing probably. If so, I would like to see more clear instructions on how to do this.

2) Which bulbs are the correct one. V-Leds does not accept returns, understandably so. We need exact model numbers for the bulbs.


EDIT: I....like yourself El Jefe changed out my DRL relay to get DRL's going in my 2005 SE. Hope this helps.
 
noiwontsmile - I believe you are right (4157) IF you had factory DRLs. My socket looks like yours not like the (El Jefe's)earlier pictures. Ours only have 2 wires as well so ours would also have to be modified.
I noticed when I replaced my bulb some time ago how discolored (heated) it was like yours although my socket wasn't quite as discolored. Makes me feel that switching these to LEDs (either these or similar) would be worthwhile to cut down on the generated heat to prolong the life of the socket???

Malicious Clout - 1) YES, if you want these to run with parking lights or other, you will have to add the 3rd wire.
2)If you DID NOT have factory DRLs & have the socket that looks like El Jefe's, get the 7443. If you DO have factory DLRs & your socket looks like noiwontsmiles, you need 4157 or equivalent.

Second...are there any pics of the following?

"I used some solid strand wire and I ran it into the same hole as the lead for the white side of the led and I soldered it in place. Then I drilled a small hole through the the bottom of the socket and threaded the wire out and attached a spade connector. I used a silicone sealant to fill and seal the holes.

I then tapped into the parking lights for my 12 volts and ran a male spade connector down to the Side marker socket and attached it to the Female connector coming from it."
