Sounds like an exhaust issue. Too much back pressure
make sure your crank pulley is tight, or it couldbe your crank position sensor. I had a lot of problems with my 2000 not revving past 3000 rpm, and that was it
I'm going this route also. When we changed my timing belt it ended up being 4 teeth off and I was getting codes and it wouldn't go past 3K. Not saying they messed with the timing belt but I'd check that and the cps as stated in the quote.
Ok i exhaust wrapped the crossover pipe as part of the heatshield was missing and the revs have increased by 500rpm.
I know that higher exhaust temps mean lower gas density which = faster exit of gases. But does the 3rd gen v6's detect exhaust temperatures?
I am totally baffled as it looks like i am the only owner in the world to have this issue.
Ive pulled the exhaust off the manifold, Things i have done.
No miss or check engine light
Checked timing
mass air sensor
TP sensor.
Checked all hoses for leaks none found.
plugs wires coil packs
check fuel pressure 55 psi at all times
pulled fuel line off installed EFI can to system eliminates fuel pump and filter
also cleans injectors
disconnected O2 sensors
crank sensor, cam sensors
checked compression 140 psi on all 6 cylinders
checked leak down of valves with leak down tester with in range.
Eliminated drive belts just for the hell of it so the crank is the only pulley that's turning.
Under load passing gear will not go over 3500 RPM at idle just sitting in park or neutral same thing. It has nothing to do with Rev limiter because its in park or neutral. Toyota's don't have a safety Rev limiter at idle so I know for a fact its not that. Not sure what else to try no body gets back on here and tells anyone after they find out what the problem is.
So if anyone has something else to try please let me know and if I figure it out ill let you guys know what the problem is. Thank you. :yield:
I've owned a 3rd gen for six years and not once have I seen it rev past 3k rpms, with or without ECT. I always assumed it was due to the fact that the v6 is a low revving engine. It never occurred to me that something might be wrong, I just figured it was a slow truck. I also live in the low country with no hills so maybe that has something to do with it.
