do you have a cracked manifold you can ship to this guy: dirtydeeds, at toyota120.com he's looking into making headers for our 4.7L and need an OEM manifold cracked or not to make fabrication jigs with heres the link to the thread

PM dirtydeeds he might even eat the shipping costs for you to get the cracked manifold to him and it would really help alot of us 4th gen v8'rs to get some aftermarket headers made

please please please dont throw it away lol PM me or dirty deads when you get it swaped out. if your doing both sides that would be even more awesome. I've been taking pics and sending measurements to him but it takes a bit more detail when you get up to the tight spaces around the heads. thanks in advance if you decide to help out with this
 
manifold/aftermarket

Has anyone replaced their manifolds/cats with these aftermarket manifolds either from rockauto or other, better than OEM 1s ? By that I mean better made fitment ?
 
The only problem I have with these is the cats are always of really crappy quality... and never last long.

Anytime I see "not approved for sale in Cali" by an aftermarket cat it just means it is a lower quality cat.

If I could get verification of the quality of the cat, I would be interested.... but the whole point, the WHOLE reason they are so cheap is usually because the have ****ty cat components. The actual minerals needed to make a cat work, and work well, are expensive. Hence why druggies are ripping them off of cars...

As they say, you get what you pay for...
 
If you're in a state without smog/annual auto exhaust check. Is a cat necessary? Does it protect something else?

If not, I'll get these and cut the cat completey off.

Thanks guys Ya I suspected as much, also looking at the magnaflow's but not Cal. legal either ? and their frickin 600$ , will keep searching for them in case of imminent failure !! TAP n Cali. has salvaged but gotta be pretty worn out as well unless find a newer model .

I am of the opinion that every bit helps. I want this Country to be as beautiful in 100 years as it is today. I am not talking drastic, crazy moves that destabilize the nation; but small, incremental changes that move us as a nation to a better way.

Part of this is a mindset change, an understanding that as an American Citizen, we have a duty to protect our nation. When I started working in D.C., for a particular Govt. entity; I took an oath to defend this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. A refusal to change out ways is more dangerous than China will ever be. What good is a country if it is so damaged and marred that it is unrecognizable.

So. For now, until the better technologies come online and are cheap enough to have widespread usage (electric, hydro).... making sure your car uses a Cat is a simple, little thing that helps.

I won't throw math at your... but the difference between an straight pipe and one with a Cat in terms of SHEER pollutants is staggering. Simply staggering.

so will this thing work? i will buy today if it OEM spec...i don't want to buy it, pay for 8 hrs labour then have check engine codes come on (heard aftermarket can cause this)
 
I don't think I would take the chance with them. They are designed similar to headers in the way that they mount to the head. My guess is that much like headers, you will spend a lot of time trying to fix exhaust leaks. There is a reason that exhaust manifolds are made of cast iron and not shaped steel tube.

With that design from the ebay link you are probably going to get the worst of both worlds. I would be that your performance would drop because of the extra heat and you are not going to get the benefit of smooth flowing exhaust because they copied a manifold design. On top of that with the thin flange it is bound to leak. A leak on an aluminum head is a risky fix. On a steel head you could crank down the bolts a little to stop a leak, but you could be in a world of trouble over torqueing an aluminum head.

Headers are great for what they are. Performance gains are worth the hassle if that is what you need. For a daily driver I think I will stick with cast iron exhaust manifolds and hope that new ones have improved over the old ones.

That's what I'm curious to know, been looking at the magnaflow on Autoanything , hard to tell they say direct fit but ? Way expensive but usually magnflow stuff is good , and they make it look like manifold & cats. all work but ?

i just want something to replace the cracked OEM manifold on my v8...but i don't feel like dishing out big $$$ for a manifold from Toyota that is just going to crack again...
 
magnaflow maniflds

Can someone check these out ? Do they look like a viable replacement for our OEM manifolds ? I know there over the top but could they be better ? Thanks for all replies !! Found them on autoanything.com
