V8 Aftermarket Exhaust Manifold

Nope. The ebay one I put in the link is the one I purchased for $300 and it came in a pacesetter box and bolted right up.

That looks like a "header" and not just the typical manifold. Is it? Did you see any difference other than being nice and quiet again?

Nope, it's just a replacement manifold from Pacesetter. Honestly, I drive my Tundra more in the Summer so I haven't driven the 4Runner much but it seems to be just like OEM again.

What is the difference between and 04 and 05 manifold? I know the newer motor is vvi.. but will this physically line up? Is it a sensor port thing? Can we make this work...

Oh and the $700 price on the pacesetter price is FULL retail with a healthy markup... These are not hard to find for less than half that all over the Internets.. :cheers:

The VVT-i manifold has the pipe for the air injection system. The 04 does not.

i hate to bump a-getting-old thread, but I wondered if anyone had more input for cracked manifolds on vvti motors? i was looking around -- is it possible that 4.7 vvti 05-06 headers for a tundra would fit our 4runners? Doug Thorley Header

Does anyone know if running with cracked manifolds could cause any issues? Mine are cracked and I'm having a hard time convincing myself that I need to spend the money on the repair.

I suppose in a perfect world anything is possible and I can't say forsure that they won't fit but I believe the frame on the 4runner is something like 4inch narrower than the Tundra so it's very unlikely that they would fit.

I wouldn't worry about causing any damage...I've been running cracked manifolds for almost a year now with no notable issues.

sucks. wonder why there isn't anyone making an aftermarket application.. with all of the people modding 4runners, i can't imagine why there wouldn't be a big enough market to warrant the production of quality headers..

Well if you look at the grand scheme of things there aren't that many people modding 4th gen 4runners when compared to other vehicles and even other 4runners for that matter. I hate to say it but from the factory, the 4th gen is the most "soccer mom friendly" 4runner. Also they would need 2 different designs, one for 03/04s and one for 05+ V8s so I just don't think it makes fiscal sense for them.

Ok, I see where your coming from as far as a smaller shop taking on the task. I actually have a small exhaust shop working on building me a full exhaust system including custon headers as we speak. I started a thread in the "Performance" subfourm.

So far it hasn't been going as well as I had hoped, the cat-back portion of the exhaust is done the headers haven't been going as planned. I hope its just because of the nature of the job and how its not a simple cut, bend and weld em up. But we'll see, and maybe he'll make a jig and be able to reproduce them...I dont know, he does it with other vehicle tho.

me rikey, keep in mind that the headers that TRDCal is working on will not fit your 4Runner. We still need someone to help with the fabrication of 05 & up headers. It's a start, but not for our engines.

I think the only diff between the vvti and non manifolds is the air pump tubes? If the exhaust ports on the heads the same then why not bypass the pump and use a block off plate for the tubes.
