Well, I guess this also goes along with Hilux Surf badging too. Shoot, have fun - put the V-8 on their if that's what you want it's all good.
I certainly don't want to start a V-8 vs. V-6 war again either, especially since the V-8's are going for less at the dealerships...
Too bad TRD and Toyota can't figure out the darn Supercharger issue. Now that would be a great mod for V-6's if they wanted extra performance.
Of course one could just put a TRD Supercharger badge on with a hidden deer whistle... Who would know the difference

At the end of the day, what makes us happy is unique to each individual. I cant fault anyone for putting emblems/badges on even if they dont represent what options the vehicle "actually" came with. Heck, we pay big bucks for these vehicles, so lets have some fun and mod the heck out of them. I plan on putting some Japan emblems on mine. And, I even thought about painting my calipers red and putting "Brembo" brake logos on the calipers. Are they Brembo? Obviously not, but it sure looks good

Look I can tell you this coming from a 03 v6 4runner limited to a 05 v8 4runner. The v6 has power but struggles under heavy throttle a little. Plus you can here it underload as well. With the v8 and it's extra torgue it moves effortlessly. The sound under heavy throttle can barely be notice with the v8's. I think it's a matter of preference. Just my 2 cent.

What your forgetting though is your 03 V6 had the 4-spd tranny and the 05 V6's have the 5-spd (same as the V8). That in itself makes a big difference. :. I've yet to feel mine struggle, even when I tow my 4-wheeler up in the mountains. I'm not getting in a pissing match, I drove both before I bought the V6. The V8 is definately smoother, but I really didn't feel much of a difference in acceleration on the road. The only reason I can think of why that would be is the V8 is transferring the power to 4 wheels all the time where as the V6 only transfers it to 2 (unless in 4wd). I like the V6, and I like the V8. Both are bullet proof engines.

I agree but still I was told by some that v6 4 sp tranny seemed faster on takeoff then the 5sp v6. I like both engine, but I feel the v8 smoothness and power wins pedal down anytime.

After driving both models, the V8 just didn't make any sense..... I could have identicle performace, better fuel economy, and save some money on the purchase price with the V6. It was an easy decision for me....

IMHO: When I purchased my 06' 4Runner V8 4X4 2 days ago, I had a choice between the V6 and V8 models (sitting side by side). They both had just come off the truck and had <3 miles on them. So, I test drove both of them back to back. I really dont care about horsepower....if I did, I would buy a Corvette. I care about torque and engine performance (quiet, smooth, refined, mpg). Is there a difference between the 2? Well, IMHO the V8 is definately smoother and VERY quiet. At engine idle, you can barely tell its running. The V6 was a little louder at throttle but was impressive as well. They both had a $500 rebate (06' models)....so, that didnt sway my decision. What made the difference for me was the V8 has been proven many years over. It is rock solid and history shows that it has bulletproof reliability. Now, I am quite sure the V6 is bulletproof as well, but it just didnt seem "as refined" as the V8 and was a little louder. Also, I like the idea of full-time 4X4 and wanted the extra ft-lbs of torque when I need it. There is just something about the V8 that makes it special. It just sounds and "feels" like a marvelous engine (which is why Lexus uses it). Again, I liked the V6 as well, and I am sure it will make many people happy. But, with all do respect, the V8 just made sense for me (even though its 1-2 mpg worse than the V6). Each to his/her own and remember, at the end of the day, we all own Toyotas

Thanks, and I agree with you. I must admit, it was a hard decision for me initially between the two. Let me clear something up (IMHO)....there is NOT that much difference between the V6/V8. The small differences are the V8 having more torque (good for towing), quieter, and full time 4X4. The V6 was a little louder, but just a little (not like you have to wear earplugs), less torque, and part time 4X4. Its that simple. I tow some, enjoy a quiet cabin and love full time 4X4....BUT THATS MESolice said:

When I bought my black Sport 2 days ago, a salsa red pearl came off the truck at the same time my runner did. I really had to think hard about which I liked better....so, because the black had the V8, I took it. If the salsa would have had the V8, it could have been in my driveway very easily.
