VENTING!! Someon stole my spare!

My spare has a big A$$ srew in it and is completely flat. i hope soeone tries to steal it. they will get what they deserve. (and a Sh*tty rim that isnt even a real rim. its what i call a nice hub cap rim)hahahaha
 
toyota parts thankfully are not a high theft item in my area. they mostly steal chevy or "fancy" rims but im still going to get a lock for mine now just to be on the safe side.
 
anyone know the contact for Steve from CBI? I'd be interested in one of those that mounts in the back. I'd like to keep an open hitch though.
 
Ok after reading all the threads about this I have seen the options that were previously available and thought I would run this idea through you guys.

I saw the lock that attached to the vehicle then ran a locking mechanism though the wheels bolt pattern (Winchlock.) Apparently these people are no longer in business but I think the flaw is having to climb under the car to unlock the tire.

This other company Spare Guard has a good idea but I do not know if anyone has tried to buy from these guys yet. If they are shady I was thinking it would be simple enough to buy some kind of spare tire cover like the older suv's had for the back exposed type of wheel. Take one of those drill out some wholes that match the lag pattern of the vehicle and basically sandwich the spare inside of that making the cable impossible to get too.

Hope that makes sense, and some of our mod happy individuals might be willing to try that out. It would be an extra step while trying to remove the spare from the car but if done correctly the tools used for removing the flat can be implemented while trying to remove the spare?

My .02 (I live in a high crime area and now I am thinking about doing some engineering to make this happen)

That sucks big to have your spare stolen and your winch mechanism screwed at the same time.

Was the cable actually cut clean off? It is common for those cables to rust through on a lot of trucks ( here in the north where thay salt the roads anyways) and they can snap and drop off on the road.
 
Extra cable will keep spare from falling off due to main cable failure, but it wont stop determined thief from stealing it by cutting 2 more cables (assuming he has bolt cutter tool).

Have you ever tried cutting one of these heavy AC cables? The strands move and make cutting a real long term job. They are much better then hardened chain. I sold them both to motor cycle shops, the cables never got cut and they were tested many many times, they really do a good job.

If you note in my pictures the lock is up high making it really tough to get bolt cutters on the shank.
