Walker QuietFlowSS Muffler Deal.

I'm back at it with the deals. I can't seem to pass up a discount I guess (my last one was tires).

So another thing on my list is replacing my rusty muffler and I've been eyeing this puppy up for awhile. And luckily I saw there was a rebate so I pulled the trigger.

I wanted something quiet, stock and preferable diy. Looks like it's supposed to just bolt in from the cat. Hopefully the bolts won't be a huge problem. I'll probably need to get the tail pipe section too.


It's $169.98, but they have a $30 rebate, plus I had to pay another $15 for taxes. So $160 after everything said and done, shipped in 2 days.

You need to order by 5/31/13 to qualify for the rebate.

I've read they have decent reviews. I'm thinking I won't need to weld anything, but I might need to double up on the gaskets, I read somewhere.

I'll post my review on it after I install it.

just bought one a few weeks ago, for $155 on AMZN. Thanks for reminding me about the rebate, I need to get on that! Have not installed it yet - I live in a rural area, so gotta make a special trip to the shop, a couple towns over.
 
I replaced my rusted stock muffler with this a month ago and it works great. I recommend getting the tail pipe piece to go with it(and new bolts and gaskets), mine was completely rusted as well. The only issues i had were:

1) I had a leak where the new muffler bolts to the old cat. I ended up using 2 of the walker gaskets together and it's sealed up nice and leak free.
2) the old muffler was rusted so bad I had to use an angle grinder to get the old bolts off where it meets the cat. It is probably worth it to just have a shop do it if yours is as rusted as mine was, but I like saving money even if it's a PITA to get done.

Sorry I didn't see your post, I've been busy. I brought the muffler into a hardware store and just bought some hardened bolts and metal lock nuts. I think they were metric size M12, but I forgot.
 
Just writing my follow up after installing this muffler.

I ended up getting the tail pipe part too

Removal of the old exhaust / muffler was the hardest part. The saw-zall became my new best friend when working on the 4runner. I ended up cutting the bolts from the cat flange to muffler flange and then cutting the rear piece of the muffler off. It took a bit, like 5-10 minutes, but it wasn't bad. Make sure to have a few new metal cutting blades on hand. I believe I went through 2 of them.

Putting it on was easy. I put the old rubber isolator/hangers on the new muffler first and then I pushed one into the hanger on the truck (next time I would intall on both hangers first). Then I used 2 gaskets for the flange between the cat and muffler. Used a lot of anti-seize on my new nuts and bolts. I used grade 5 bolts from napa with a locking washer. For the tail piece I just used 1 gasket. Install was easy.

I fired it up and it was quiet, compared the old exhaust with a few holes in it, that sounded like a lawn mower.

It's a little louder than stock, but only noticeable when you really step on the gas. I had some weird smells come from the exhaust and I looked underneath and it was the glue from all the shipping and labeling stickers burning off. I used WD-40 to remove all the stickers and most of the glue, but I guess I didn't get all of it.

Oh yeah, FYI, when you order from Amazon the muffler comes delivered unboxed. The muffler just shows up on your door step with the shipping labels on it.

So far so good. Pretty easy DIY if you have a saw-zall.

I'll try to report back in awhile.

Funny thing, mine was installed this past week - got it on, installed, and all, rusty bolts, etc, for $41. Not bad, really. It is quiet, compared to the roar I had with no muffler :D

Waiting for my rebate! Hope it goes through!
 
I bought one the same way. It was missing the hanger by the O2 sensor. It looks like that one is as well. I always wondered if it created some of the weird vibes I have.
 
UPDATE.

So it's been a little over 1 year since I installed my Walker QuietFlowSS Muffler. We had a pretty bad winter this year in the NorthEast and I'm pretty sure my truck saw a lot of salt. I washed it whenever I had the opportunity (maybe twice during the winter), including underneath, but it wasn't enough.

I should have taken a picture but I was antsy to do something.... There was rust on all the seams of the muffler. It looked pretty bad, but not all the way through yet. I sprayed some Eastwood Rust Converter I had left over all the rust. I checked their website and it's rated for 400 degree F, so far it's been ok. I also ordered some high-temp rustoleum spray paint rated for 2000 degrees, but I haven't used it yet.

So if I were to install this again, next time I would spray paint it before installing it. Someone mentioned there's rusted out pretty fast and I should have taken pre-cautions.

I'm just hoping it'll last me 2 more years, but I don't think so.


Edit: Someone mentioned punching a drip hole in the muffler. I might not have to punch one pretty soon.

I keep hearing from the reviews that the oxygen sensor studs are crap that rust away in a few months. I wonder how much of it is actually stainless steel.

They ARE! Been using JBweld. Kinda crappy and only lasts a few months of mild off road and then its out again. Gonna have to put on some fresh JB weld and some small gauge wire to keep the O2 sensor in place.
