wanna paint your fender flares? just got a quote

So I want to paint my flares to match the body. I've got a white Sr5 with silver flares so I didn't want to attempt it myself. Went to my local body shop and was quoted $300:jaw:

Basically they're charging the most for labor since they'd remove all of them and spray them and reattach with all new adhesive. But man that's a lot. Also asked about a hood incase I find a sport one, $600+ for them to install it as well. Wow.

Honestly I rather take everything off and put back on myself. Then have them paint them. I like knowing a shop isn't tearing my $hit up while they're disassembling everything and vise versa. Keeps the cost down as well.

600 bucks to paint and install a hood is about normal. I wrote up a quote for a guy a few months ago using my body shop estimating software and it was around 600.

I bought a set of Bushwacker flares. $300 just to paint them. I prepped and will be doing to install. Paint work isn't cheap but it's worth it to have it done right.

Yeah that's actually not a bad price. Spraying automotive paints WELL is actually really hard.

I'll paint them for free - but you'll have runs and an orange peel effect and probably a few fish eyes here and there cause I suck with the sprayer.

The fender flares seem resonable. The hood is pricy if they are only doing blow by, if they are colour matching and fading it into the fenders then that's a great price. Paint work isn't cheap and it's also not easy. I picked myself up a nice gun to do my own paint work and I have easily over 600 invested in equipment, I don't even have an air compressor.

i was going to say $300 is a bit steep unless that are color matching and fading..and i thought you'd leave it on the truck for get the fade right...

one of the moe well known members painted his flares and the whole lower half of his truck like that, can't remember who though, think it was a desert dune color or something like that...yeah i'm useless...:smow:

Thats not a bad price. I was quoted $600 for that on my 4runner, but it is a limited so there's a little more work involved.

Or you could tape everything off on the truck and spray it with a gun yourself. Not hard at all just takes a little time.

I just thought they'd leave them on and paint but the rear flares you have to open up the doors to get the whole thing. But i would hope they'd color match them to the body regardless of the price.

I Plasti-dipped my flares, bumpers and cladding, then I painted over it with spray paint. It's holding up really well and I can always revert back to stock when I want. It's a pain to do, but I'm really happy with the outcome. It also has been holding up pretty well with a few edges along the rubber between the flare and body that kind of are starting to peel. Pictures are in my build in my signature.

LOL. .. $300 to properly paint the removed flare pieces is jokingly cheap.

I was quoted $800 when I inquired.

There are a lot (8 I believe) different plastic pieces that need to be painted with the limited flares.

OP, have you checked the services section of craigslist in your area? There are a few guys around here that advertise for auto painting around here. They do it right out of their garage and for a lot cheaper than an auto body shop. And Id be willing to bet some of those guys do really good work. Heck, I bet a lot of them work in auto body shops

Mine were painted with Dupli Bedliner in a can. It's held up really well.

There's already a black one running around town with a pink grill so I've gotta do something different. I thought the $300 was a lot but I guess I was wrong. I'd have them fill in a few scratches anyway so it'll be a little more. Guess I'll start saving my pennies
