Well back in my single days some friends and I decided to start a competition to see who could build the most capable street legal rig for under $5,000. None of us stuck with the budget and everyone else sold theirs along the way. I'm so deep into this one that I'll never end up selling it.
It started as a 1985 with a 22RE. I was using it as a work truck for my construction business. My foreman was using it while his Taco was getting a timing chain and the bottom end went out. I had also purchased an 86' Toyota Pickup with a factory turbo. Same thing happened to it. So I decided to rebuild the 22RET and put it in the 4Runner.
I wasn't into the forum thing then so sorry I don't really have any documentation as to how or what I did. The skinny is that just about everything has been replaced, or reconditioned with the exception of the transmission and a few auxiliary engine components. I learned to do bondo, t cases, diffs, and practiced my birfield skills on this rigs.
A lot of blood, sweat, $s, and tears went into this thing and we have a love hate relationship.
I know, it's past time for a picture. Here are some from its fresh coat of paint.
Ok, back to the story. It had 31"ATs and the Chevy rear leafs. Replaced them with AllPro 4" leafs.
I'll just dive into the specs from the ground up.
315/75/16 Goodyear MTRs, American Racing steel wheels, 5:29 ring and pinions, Detroit rear, lock right front, long travel driveline splines, t case e brake, dual turbo t cases, factory turbo manual trans, 22RET with reman turbo, fully custom exhaust, refinished factory color (desert sand), Trail Gear Bumpers front and rear, Warn XD9000 with Amstel blue 3/8"line, AllPro sliders, 4x4 innovations full roll cage, reupholstered seats, homemade interior panels, lousy gauges, auxiliary engine fan, and a SoftTopper.
You guessed it, time for more pictures.
Just kidding that last one is not mine but I wish it was.
Here's on trying her out in a big boulder garden near the storage site.
Haha, making sure you're paying attention. Also not mine but I wish it was.
