Perhaps it's a solution looking for a problem, but I've been staring at my ugly washer hose routing, and after seeing how much cleaner the newer trucks (like the 3rd Gen Taco) look, I decided to modernize mine as well.
For comparison, here is the original 4Runner routing. The weird loop always bothered me:

So here is a step by step of how I "copied" the Taco approach to my truck. I used only existing parts/connectors in my junk bin from the 4Runner, though I might upgrade later to some Toyota connectors for the 3rd Gen Taco.
First, rotate the existing elbow connector on the hood by 90 deg (it's a square cutout, so it can be rotated by any increment of 90 deg).
Original:
Remove hoses, and pry out the connector:
Rotate it 90 deg and reinstall:
Attach downstream hose:
Now take the OEM fender connector and modify it by cutting off the mounting portion (I did this for rapid prototyping, I actually recommend getting a new Toyota elbow for a whopping $2, details at the end):
Slip two pieces of washer tubing onto each end of the resulting V-connector:
Now this is the important part - you want to locate that V-connector as close as possible to the hood hinge pivot, that way it won't move back and forth when you open and close the hood. Starting out:
Fully tucked in:
Now take a connector just like the one used on the hood underside and put it where the original fender-mounted connector was. It's this one, if you need a second one (I had a bunch laying around):
Connect to it the supply hose (bottom) and the inlet leg of the V-connector hose (rear):
Then connect the remaining hose from V-connector to the inlet leg of the hood-mounted connector:
Voila, you're done! For those with hood struts, this clears the struts beautifully:
For a final comparison, here is what I had originally (modified from OEM to accommodate the struts), and what I ended up with:
And my next step is to buy a 3rd Gen Taco V-connector used near the hinge pivot, just to make it cleaner:
I might also get some clips to hold the hose in position along the hinge and near the cowl, but it's working just fine as-is. If/when I get the Tacoma V-connector, I'll update the post.
