Water Pump

So I have a feeling I've been ripped of by this mechanic. I took it back to them to have a look at it. To me it appears that they over torqued the water pump messing up the gasket causing it to leak around the gasket. Well I took it down there today the shop manger to a look and said well you supplied the part no warranty. I said "okay what about a guarantee on the labor since it looks like it was over torqued." His response was no guarantee or warranty he wanted me to pay them another$400-$500 to re and re the pump again. I politely said I would let him know later whether I need them to do it. As I left I'm thinking no way in hell are you touching my 4R again let alone pay you again to mess something else up. So I guess I will take it to the dealer and hopefully that will be the end of it.:rant:
 
That's a bummer man. I highly doubt the part was faulty and any good, honest mechanic should warranty the work they did, regardless of whether you supplied the part or not.

My guess is either they didn't clean the block properly before placing the new seal/pump or torqued incorrectly like you said. Maybe someone like [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] can comment on whether he has seen this before (leaking after fresh WP install)... or give some tips to get it to stop leaking (tighten it up, etc.).

I can't stand mechanics that cannot guarantee their own work.
And cleaning the block has a huge impact on sealing the WP to the block.
All the rust and crustys from your older WP gasket and just dried leaked coolant will interfere with how flush the WP can get. My best guess would be the gasket and contact surfaces.

Damn. Thats why I perform all of my own work, even if I've never done it. I have been burned so many times that I just cant trust anyone but myself.
 
I haven't seen a WP fail that quickly after an install on a Toyota with OEM WP. I would suspect they either didn't clean the block before installing the new WP (Which I don't see why you wouldn't do to make sure it doesn't leak again...), over torqued or under torqued the WP, or its a faulty part (unlikely, but possible)
 
Sorry didn't update over the weekend was fairly busy. The the 4r in to the dealer on Saturday which was nice since I phoned Friday. They took a look at it, and it was a bad pump and the gasket was messed up from being over torqued. I think the other shop must of done something with the pump before the install. The shop that did the original install told me that they won't warranty the part when I got the estimate but never said anything about not guaranteeing their labor. Now it tool them 2 1/2 days to do it, Metro Toyota had it done in less than 4 hours. Metro also only charged my $665Cdn with a new pump whereas Searles charged me over $500 and I supplied the part. I'm gonna file a complaint with the BBB even though I know it won't do anything. I will be writing a few reviews on them online since I don't see any really at all for them and the ones are their site are ass kissers. I just can't see RockAuto sending out a bad w/pump.
 
Is there a DIY with Photos regarding WB replacment? I have been looking and I see a lot of chatter about parts, etc.
