Water temp rose to 195f today

Quick question regarding my water temp. I have a scan gauge connected to my 2016 4Runner and noticed today the water temp went up to 195f. It was about 74f outside today so not that hot. My reason for concern is that I never saw it get that high last summer. The max was 191f last summer even when it was 90f outside just for reference. Should I be concerned or is that normal operating range? I was not towing anything by the way. Let me know your thoughts.

195 is fine. 200F would be fine. All depends on whats actually happening (a/c on? Idling or moving? under load?). Don't worry until you hit 210 or so and you can't hear the giant fan under the hood trying to suck the grill through the radiator. The cooling system on these things is pretty damned good. Much better than my prior JK with electric fan which was set to not come on until 230F and would routinely hit 235F+.

Eh, 195*F is toasty; but I wouldn't care too much until it starts pushing past 200~210*F while standing still or driving at freeway speeds.

Agreed, I'm not too concerned, the only thing is it seemed a bit odd from the norm in terms of what I've been seeing. I'll keep tabs on it and inspect the radiator to see if anything is obstructing the fins. Also, I checked the radiator fluid and it's full just an FYI.

I had the scan gauge hooked up monitoring the 2 tranny fluid temps and the engine coolant . when the air temp was 85deg f out and in a traffic area of stopping and 50MPH speeds on back road the tranny temp rose up to 190deg F from 180 F and the engine temp rose from 187f to 191 f.

when I got out of this area and on a no traffic controlled hywy the temps dropped down to the normal range. ac on ! 186/7 F coolant and tranny temps 178F @70MPH air temp 85F

Yep, those coincide with my water temps as of last summer. While my water temp went up to 195 yesterday, the transmission temps were running at 165 at pan and 170 at TC so don't know what's going on.

the tranny temps 165-170F is what I usually have on a typical daily use.


the temps I posted before @85F air temp was a day long 12 hour drive engine never shutdown.. MPG on that day long drive 20.5MPG happy with that number

over the years these T stats can stick . with a dash gauge like on these toyota's you may not see it 10 deg higher of lower. I have had to change T stats because of temps too low when the cold hits they stick open.
