Weathertech bug deflector install question

Anyone had problems installing the weathertech stone and bug deflector? I attempted to install last night and after the deflector is on there is no way possible that the grill can go back on, the bottom lip in the center of the deflector covers up the holes where the grill attaches. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had the same problem with Bugflector II, the grill wont go in after setting up the bugshield. I even trimmed the lower lip to be able to fit, but it wouldn't. The install instruction says loosen the grill bolts (not take off the grill) and insert lower lip behind the grill. But there is no way I could do that. Now Bugshield has been sitting in my garage and not on the vehicle :ybrick:

same here, no space between the grill and deflector. Its a bugflector II.

The deflector gets clamped between the hood and grill.

I finally got mine installed, just loosened the nuts holding the grill on until there was just enough room to slide the lip of the deflector between the hood and grill, and it's done, literally took 5 minutes once I realized I was way over complicating it! Thanks for the input

I bought mine directly from Weathertech's website, just plug in your year and model and there you go:

Come to find out Weathertech doesn't manufacture them, they buy from Lund, and it is the bugdeflector II from Lund. hope this helps!

Then you have a gap between your hood and grille that looks like crap, I am looking for one that fits with the grille in place.

I don't have a gap... the rubber molding seals right up against it. Right at the edges of the deflector there might be a tiny, triangular gap (less than 1/16"), but there's not a gap anywhere else along the deflector or along the edge of the grille.

Now I'm sad that you think my 4Runner looks like crap... not really! :
It actually looks nice and clean.

Yep, I had the same problem when I went to install. Just loosening the screws on the grill would not allow me to develop a gap to insert. I finally took off all the nuts, pushed from the inside and bingo. Once you get the deflector flange into the gap, it tightens up and pulls the rubber snug, no gapping should be present. Instructions with some of these parts are not very good. It's like they're written by someone who has never done it personally. Glad you got-r-done . Best regards, Doug

I guess if you tighten it up enough it draws it in but that install bugged me, no pun intended, hahaha, your truck does not look like crap i just don't like that method, i am looking at a factory one, what did the FJ springs do for you?

They're a little more firm than stock and yielded me 1"/0.75" (F/R) lift. The 2010 FJ coils (with shocks that I didn't use) and a Toytec front spacer kit to level everything out only cost me $170... pretty decent bang for the buck!

Weathertech Bug Guard Issues

This thread has been inactive for awhile, but I had similar issues when I recently installed the Weathertech Stone / Bug Guard. I ended up doing as a couple people here suggested and just loosened the bolts attaching the grill to the hood, and slid (forcefully) the edge of the deflector between the hood and the grill, then retightened the bolts. That worked for awhile but now it has come out and is just kind of flopping in the wind on top of my hood. (It is still attached on each end under the hood.) I need to fix it so it doesn't damage the paint on my hood. Anyone have any tips for keeping it in there long term, other than just making sure the bolts are tight??
