Weigh in! Anyone tried the URD MAF on a 5th Gen?

I'm interested in this product-- or anything that gives a little extra ooomph to my Runner.

Anyone tried it? Can you feel a difference? Better mileage? More power? If you have any engine mods, please let us know what you installed first (MAF or your other engine mods) and if they all "played well" together.

Looking forward to hearing some thoughts!

I just got off the phone with gadget over at URD and he assure me that URD specifically designs their products for non-pansies who have a link to their build thread in their signature. This way other users can respond to you and see the work you have done rather than watch you mosey through here siphoning off information while adding little to no useful content of your own.

Seeing that you own a 3rd Gen could you have provided helpful advice even if he had filled out his sig?

Please try to keep your 4Runner rubber-side down (unlike your Grand Cherokee). :flipoff:

And yes, I plan on a creating a full build thread and write-up as soon as I get one last part installed...you'll find it on the FIFTH GEN 4RUNNER FORUM (5th gen, a.k.a. Gen V)

Oh, and I'm still hoping someone can share their experience with the URD's MAF doobie. I like to go fast.

I'm curious about anyone's results from this as well if someone has installed it. I e-mailed them and Gadget said they typically see a 10-15hp gain with their unit on our 5th gen. model.

I also asked him if they had dyno tested a TRD intake with the calibrator and he said they had not (I asked bc that's what I have).

Prolex- thanks for the input. I curious why we haven't had any response— I can't imagine that no one on this forum has tried the MAF...weird.

If the MAF really adds 10-15 horsepower, I'd probably buy it—particularly if someone weighed in and said they had a positive experience. Love the Runner, but more "go" in the go pedal is never a bad thing.

I sucked it up and bought the URD MAF sensor calibrator just now. Will chime in once it arrives and is installed. I ain't afraid to cut wires! ... :hiding:

I am in North Dakota lol. Closest dyno tuning available from me is over 5 hours. Would love to do it though. Hate to say it but the ole gut/butt dyno will have to do =/

Correction: Dyno tune is 3 hours away but no one i asked knows who owns it bc he doesn't advertise it.

Does URD have dyno results posted? I understand location is an issue and the same holds true for me. Unfortunately with no real tests then the additional horsepower (or lack of) does not exist. We are discussing "seat of the pants" in a tire thread right now and at the end of the day it's just an opinion unless measured and documented. Good luck though!

Thanks! Yeah I completely understand. Proof would be nice. They do not have it charted out on their website.

I just e-mailed Gadget @ URD asking if they have the dyno results and if he could show me the chart. Also asked what combinations (i.e. intakes, exhausts) they have dyno tested it with on our vehicle. Will keep you guys posted if I get some useful info.
 
I'm in also. The 4r needs a little something now that it has 33's on it. If this doesn't "work," I'm on to gears. In all reality I'll end up with gears anyway.(gears are a hard science whereas the MAF sensor seems to me to be more of a soft science. Not the actual definitions I realize but my rational. ) But I have the cold air and exhaust so I'll give this a try. My consistently flawed logic tells me this should help. But I'm skeptical about 10-15 hp. And I would also assume that most of the power gain would be high in the RPM band.

Have you done your 4.10 gear mod yet. I see it on your list. Also have you seen any other threads on 5th gen gear swaps. I've been looking at east coast gear supply. The have a 3rd member swap kit that I'm looking at.
