Like most people who like to save money and keep their stock head unit, i choose to play my iphone through the ipod to tape wire. For some reason my back driver side speaker crackles when i do this. When i am on AM/FM or CD is doesn't crackle at all. Before i got my iphone i had an android and this problem never happened. I also bought a brand new mp3 to tape line, still have the problem. PLEASE HELP :/

I used to have my iPod play through the tape player and I had the same static problem, but only with the iPod. Radio worked fine. I think it's just the tape wire and the iPod don't like to mix too well and once I upgraded my head unit, it went away. So you weren't alone!

I didn't replace any speakers (the subs were more important and now I'm just saving up for speakers since I have the subs) so far but I will shortly. I put in a Pioneer DEH-4200UB head unit. I had that bad boy in my old 86 runner (loved that car) and got it out and slapped it into my 99. I attached an image of it, it looks great in it.

With the new headunit, I have MUCH better sound (only comparatively speaking to the old head unit and that crazy static with my iPod) and it actually charges my iPod when I plug it in (in the picture you can see my iPod chord). And for security, I can just take off the faceplate of the head unit and it is pure black so no one can even tell I'm supposed to have a radio in there! If you got any more electronics questions I can help you out.

It's not the speaker. i did this too while I was waiting for my new HU to come in, and my speakers did the same thing. The AUX through tape inputs are some of the worst sounding things i've ever heard.

again, nothings wrong with your spearkers. it's just a terrible way to play music through your stereo. After I put in my HU it sounded just fine.

What do you have the volume level at on your ipod? Try turning it down to half and turning the actual car stereo up. Those tape adapters can't handle the signal when the volume is up all the way.

What he said. The music sounds scratchy if you have the volume on the iPod/iPhone turned all the way up. Turn down the volume on the iPod.

i will try that today after school, thanks

Well in the near future i plan on installing a cb/pa system and the new radio so im sure ill send u a message or two regarding that, thanks

If you look at my head unit picture, you can see my CB radio sitting there. And my PA system horn is bolted behind my bumper out of sight so I'd be more than happy to share my findings and mistakes with you haha. Just shoot me a message whenever.

Also, I have a problem with the cassette to iPod cord in my dads jetta, my old one I could play at 3/4 volume on the iPod, but this new one I can't barely play at 1/3 volume without issues, and it's because of the new cord.
