weird noise after getting stuck in 2Hi

I got stuck trying to drive up and onto a driveway out of some grass. I didn't have enough of a head start so I got stuck against the driveway curb. When the front tires got stuck against the curb and I realized I was stuck and didn't have enough oomph to get up onto the driveway, some noise came from the front wheels. It almost sounded like when ABS starts working (clunkclunkclunk).

Of course I was able to put the car in reverse, back up a bit, and then resume driving as usual.

I have gotten stuck before and never heard anything like this. I was driving in 2Hi, so as far as I know only the rear wheels should have had power and been spinning. But this wasn't drivetrain binding or anything was it? Does anyone have any ideas?

I have a 2016 Trail (4x4). I've heard the traction control make a sound like that. Traction control is ABS-actuated and the ABS pump is up front so it might sound like the ABS was actuating on the front but it was really doing it's thing to the rear wheels.

You know, it did kind of sound like traction control (which as you said is ABS actuated. Would traction control really have activated just because the front tires couldn't get up over a hump?

One (or both) of your rear tires were likely spinning. If this were the case, then yes it would actuate in an attempt to arrest the spin/regain traction.

I definitely wasn't moving forward when the wheels were trying to push me onto the driveway, so that solves that, case closed. Thank you!
